"This anthology is a stellar compilation of new stories by 11 masters of the genre, with each tale set in a well-established and well-loved universe.... What is so noteworthy about this collection is the fact that all the selections are first rate and are well integrated into their universes, making the book a bonanza not only for avid fans who are familiar with the various series and want more but also for less well read fantasy readers, who will find each story herein a great introduction to a writer's world."—Sally Estes, Booklist

"A superb Baedeker to the fantasy worlds of 11 of the field's finest writers."—Dallas Morning News

"Perhaps Legends, an anthology of brand-new novellas by nearly a dozen of the more-famous modern writers in the field, will help secure long-overdue respect. All the writing is of the highest caliber; and each of the tales is compelling. To top it off, artists such as Michael Whelan, Keith Parkinson and Erik Wilson have contributed illustrations that become icing on the cake. Legends makes for a fine road map to the worlds of 11 masters of the genre and serves as a perfect milestone for future fantasy anthologists. Silverberg has put together an anthology of which he and his fellow writers can be justly proud."—Des Moines Daily Register

What would you expect from 11 short stories from 11 of the best selling famous of modern fantasy writers? The stories are set in the same worlds of the original best selling works. The results are pretty much the same as the originals, in other words best selling quality short novels. If you liked the original you'll enjoy the short story. The stories all add something without being crucial. If you're a fan of any of the authors listed, or just wanted to read something by them then you should check out this book. I give it an A on the StuPage Book Reviews.

This is one of the greatest books to hit the shelves within the past decade. Contained within are no less than ELEVEN unique, necessary novellas, each tied to one of the greatest fantasy series in print today. Just one of these has been reprinted separately - at $17.95! To anyone just getting introduced to Fantasy: BUY THIS BOOK!

I was only interested in the two short stories by Stephen King and Raymond E. Feist. The others I did not read. The Dark Tower: The Little Sisters of Eluria I absolutely loved this short story! It was great to re-visit The Dark Tower series! Wandering the desert, in search of Walter, Roland finds himself trapped in a dead town of Eluria. He is "nursed" back to health by a group of sisters. What he finds there are love, a deep secret of the sisters, and the memories of his past that he keeps close to him. A really great read! The Riftwar Saga: The Wood Boy I really loved this short story too! It makes me want to re-read the Raymond E. Feist novel from beginning to end. Dirk is a servant of the lord, in Walinor, He is found by the Midkemia soldiers, drawing a sled, and saturated in blood. He has an amazing tale to tell Borric.

First, there are quite a few versions of this book... there is a hardcover, a full paperback, then a seperate set that is spanned across 3 mass market paperbacks (titled Legends 1, Legends 2 and Legends 3). Whichever way you go, this is an EXCELLENT book (or series, if you go with the broken set). 11 original stories by top authors set in their famous fantasy worlds. Most fantasy readers will recognise some of the authors, and this book should get readers hooked on some of the other authors as well.
