Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Magi Evans
As the firefighters celebrate the opening of their new fire station with a Halloween costume party, a monster and a werewolf sneak in unnoticed. Coincidentally, two of the firefighters, Andy and Bob, are dressed as a monster and a werewolf. As the chief sends Andy and Bob to get more ice, the fire bell rings, and the two imposters end up on the fire engine in place of the costumed firefighters. After the fire at an abandoned house has been put out, and a cat rescued from a tree, Bob and Andy show up and reveal that they were not on the scene. But by then, the monster and werewolf have rejoined their trick-or-treating friends, leaving the firefighters scratching their heads over the identity of the imposters who helped them put out the fire. This is a cute story with terrific illustrations of Lego characters. The characters are diverse, including a female firefighter and an Asian youngster. There are activities going on in the pictures that are not in the narrative, so young readers or listeners need to be paying attention to the pictures as well as the story. Parents will be pleased that the story shows how firefighters do their job, and that no one was hurt in the fire. This story will be fun for young Lego builders as well as for fans of the recent Lego Movie. Reviewer: Magi Evans; Ages 4 to 7.
