we read Lemon Tart for our Book Group in March. It was very fun talking and reviewing the book. We all enjoyed the characters, the plot and the recipes. For dessert at book group, we sampled the brownies and the cookies from the book. The surprise ending of "who done it" was great.

This book has many intriguing elements: a mystery, humor and yummy recipes! Sadie Hoffmiller is a busybody neighbor who knows her way around the kitchen. When a delicious mystery rears its intriguing lemon head, Sadie pushes herself into the middle of it; she can't help herself, especially where food is involved. I liked Sadie and look forward to reading more of her adventures. She's spunky, honest, smart and grounded. Plus, her neighbors get to enjoy Sadie's baked goods. Sadie was sharing her baking knowledge with a young neighbor. The neighbor is killed and her two-year old son is missing. Can Sadie connect the clues in this murder recipe without getting herself in trouble? This 'cozy' mystery was a fun, clean, quick read that kept me guessing until the mystery was solved. The books in this series would make delightful gifts for any reader on your list.

Josi Kilpack's Lemon Tart is a fun read. I read English Trifle first (the second in the series), and was excited to read the first installment of amateur sleuth Sadie Hoffmiller. I really enjoyed the final chase sequence after the murderer is revealed. I also liked that the murderer was such a surprise--I'm usually pretty good at calling the murderer (except when my imagination is far more interesting than the author's!), but Kilpack totally got me. At times, Sadie can be a little preachy (okay, it almost makes me *want* her to get her comeuppance!), but she does hold herself to as high a standard as she holds others, and she recognizes that she's not perfect. And of course, I can't wait to try the recipes!

I enjoyed this culinary mystery. The Main character is likable and the plot thickens in the end to be very enjoyable. I will read another.

Josi Kilpack's LEMON TART is a recipe for murder, intrigue and fun. This first book in her culinary mystery series introduces Sadie Hoffmiller, a widowed and retired with nothing to do but cook, garden and watch her neighbors. When her beautiful young neighbor Anne Lemmon is murdered and her child is missing, Sadie takes it on herself to investigate; much to the chagrin of the two detectives assigned to the case (a real good cop-bad cop duo). Kilpack has created a fantastic group of characters; keeps the reader in suspense and adds a few recipes along the way (for those of us you like to cook). I enjoyed reading this fun mystery.

Lemon Tart: A Culinary Mystery by Josi S.Kilpack With Josi's previous books on issues, her newest is the start of a delightful culinary series. I've always enjoyed culinary mysteries, what with several mouth-watering recipes interspersed through out just to whet our appetite, it just makes you want more. Since this one is Lemon Tart, the cover is uniquely yellow!!!! Sadie Hoffmiller, cooking afficianado and amateur sleuth, finds her neighbor's dead body in a field out in the neighbor's back yard. The police tend to suspect Sadie when she runs ahead of them searching for suspects and reasons why the young mother was murdured. With more suspects looming on the horizon, Sadie's not sure what will happen next. And, Anne's two year old son is miussing and it's up to Sadie to find him and bring the murderer to justice. With her second in the series, English Trifle, due out in Aug, you'll want to read this and savor each page!!!! LEMON TART is the first in a series of culinary mysteries, with recopies included throughout the story.  Sadie Hoffmiller lives in a small, friendly community where neighbors watch out for each other, and also seem to know everyone's business.  Sadie's a widow, and her children are all grown-up and moved out of her house.  Therefore, she loves to help other people, and sharing her cooking and baking skills with those around her.   When , Anne, a young single mother, is found murdered in her back yard, Sadie seems to be the neighbor who was most involved with her, and was helping her learn cooking and gardening.  With Anne having no other relatives, Sadie was called upon to identify her mangled body.  But the bigger question became, what has happened to Anne's two year old son, Trevor. Anne wants to help to find Trevor , and his Mom's murderer, but the two policeman working the case seem to have a mystery grudge going between themselves already.   One policeman welcomes the inside knowledge that Sadie brings to the case, while the other one wants to charge Sadie with the murder.  Working this case becomes a trial in itself. I thoroughly enjoyed the interactions of all the characters in this story.  Even though Sadie was a bit of a busybody neighbor, her actions seemed very reasonable in the situation because the focus was often on the officers bickering, rather than focusing on the investigation.  So, of course, Sadie found herself in numerous compromising and scary situations.  Then when Information about Anne, showed she was not who she seemed, everything got even more interesting. Exciting mystery, yummy recipes, good characters, and less than perfect police procedurals made for a great read.  Looking forward to the next read in this culinary mystery series!

When my grandma told me to read this I thought it would be some old boring history of a lemon tart but it is actually a murder mystery. It takes you on alot of r twists and turns and is very surprising at the end. After I read this book it became my absolute favorite.
