She promptly finds a job at a tattoo parlor, a craptastic first apartment, and one friend—Ryan—who is a little less friend, a little more benefits.

Deo Beckett is a soulful surfer with a passion for tattoos and beautiful women. On the eve of his twenty-second birthday, he finds himself living with his grandfather, recently unemployed, and seriously adrift. He doesn't know much about what he wants out of life, but he does know his current situation isn't cutting it. When Deo meets Whit, she's all sexy makeup and fierce, smart-ass fun. It doesn't take him long to see past her tough shell. And when he gets a good look at what's under all the superficial stuff that usually gets his attention, it leaves Deo wondering if there might be more to life than living fast and free.

Too bad Whit has a past she doesn't plan on sharing—no matter how hot Deo is. She might want him, but she knows better than to let her guard down.

Deo falls for Whit, and falls hard. But everything about her, down to that mysterious tattoo and the way she thrashes in her sleep, tells him that the girl he loves is hiding something. And the more he pushes for answers, the more Whit pulls away. Having your guard up is one thing, but are the lengths Whit goes to to protect her secret worth throwing away the second chance she has at happiness with Deo?

I really enjoyed this book. I fell in love with Deo and felt a connection to all the characters. I loved his Mom and his Grandpa and the relationship they had. Deo reminded me a bit of Travis in Beautiful Disaster, one of my favorite books. I liked Whit, too. I appreciated that she was sexual and not ashamed of that. I am thankful to the author's trust in the reader to accept the realism that sex does happen. I get so tired of the 'oh my gosh, We. Can. Not. Have. Sex.' trap that a lot of these books fall into.

First of all, I just LOVE this cover! I was sold on the book before I even read the synopsis. Ok...now on to the goods. As some of you know, I'm a fan of Liz Reinhardt's and when she asked if I'd be interested in reading her new book that she wrote with Steph Campbell, not only did I say yes, but HECK YES! This is my first book by Steph Campbell and since this is a collaboration, I tried to see if I could pick out who wrote what. I have a guess, but who knows if I'm right. Anyway, what I found was a story I didn't want to put down and characters that I fell in love with.

We meet Deo first, so I'll start with him. He's twenty-two and really hasn't figured out what he wants to do with his life. All he really thinks about is surfing and girls. However, there is a deeper side to Deo. He has had a bit of a troubled relationship with his father and that has shaped that decisions he's made in his life. His dad took off to pursue his dreams, leaving Deo and his mom behind. Because of that abandonment, Deo tries hard not to be like his father. As a result, he is not exactly an overachiever. Not to say that he isn't smart, because he is. He just lacks some motivation and incentive to get a move on his life. Then he meets Whit.

Whit is a bit of a mystery at first. She's left her life in Pennsylvannia behind to go to school in California. Whit has only allowed herself to open up to two people since she moved to town. She has a story to tell for sure. Whit wasn't at all prepared for Deo. Not only is she a good influence on him, but he made her feel again and because of his honesty and openness with her, she begins to let him in little by little. I won't say anything else about her, because that is a big part of the story. What I will say is that I was glad when we started to see glimpses of her opening her heart to Deo. He really was so sweet and patient with her. I think his hippy upbringing helped to keep him mellow in stressful situations. LOL

I haven't read many collaborations, but I thought that the authors did a great job of keeping the story fluid. I never felt like there was a gap in the storyline. As always, I look forward to reading more of Liz's work and am now anxious to get started on Steph's other books.

Finally, I have to say that I went through so many different emotions in this book. It's sweet, tender, funny, spicy, and a little bit sad. It's a story about a couple finding trust, love, and comfort in each other. Because there is some mature content, I would recommend this book to anyone over 18. Definitely check this one out!

AMAZING Collaboration from AMAZING Indie girls!

Okay. Let me be a girl for just a second… Oh man, oh man, ohmanohmanohman.
Alright. Got that out of my system.

First, I need to give a shout out to Steph Campbell and Liz Reinhardt. I’ve read other books of theirs, and LOVED them. So please check them out. They are bow-worthy writers in this amazingly rich Indie industry. Second, I must thank them for this Absolute Piece of Genius, I believe this book to be.

    Alright, enough groveling.

    Hummuna hummuna… Hummuna.

From the get-go, this book had me, but it wasn’t like a kick-in-the-stomach or a vise-to-the-heart kind of had me, it was more like a hot sexy bug crawling up my leg, burrowing into my skin, eating its way to my brain… Okay, maybe this direction isn’t so appealing. Simply put, it was a slow burn, but like on a California brush fire scale. This book was H-O-T. HOT! And the best part was, the intimate stuff didn’t come until about halfway through the story.

Deo. Sigh. He could be put into words, but I’d much rather pinch his rock-hard surfing non-existent love handles. He was juicy. Aside from that, he was sweet, real, and honest to a hilarious fault. His huge blunders only managed to make him more lovable, and the lengths (get it? ha) he goes through for Whit are seriously love-him-for-life material.

    One of Deo’s best lines:

Whit looks like an angel when she sleeps. She’s all sweet, full lips, long, curly eyelashes, and a tumble of sleek, dark hair against the pillow.
She also kicks like a mule, snores like a bear, sweats like a hog, and steals the covers like a fat, menacing caterpillar about to cocoon herself before her metamorphosis.

Bwahahahaha! I think I almost peed my pants when I read this line.

Whit was a strange blend of controlled and crazy, but also severely broken, vulnerable, and more guarded than the President of the United States walking into an open ring of terrorists. Seriously. This girl had it all when it came to

I had heard so many good things about this book.....and they were all
true! I loved everything about it. I place this as more of a new adult
than a young adult novel due to the sexual content and language. Steph
Campbell and Liz Reinhardt have come together to bring us a story that
is gripping, and one that keeps you invested in the lives of all the
characters, especially the blossoming romance of Deo and Whit. If ever
there were two opposites that attract....it's Deo and Whit. Deo is a
surfer boy who has floated through life with no ambition and is headed
nowhere; he views himself as the ultimate loser. He has an estranged
relationship with his father and is somewhat bitter as a result. He has
no intention of finding a job or getting tied down in a relationship
with anyone. Deo has a laid back, confident and cocky attitude with
just enough bad boy vibe that I couldn't help but fall in love with him.
He just has so much magnetism! I fell in love with him on page 1. Deo
only has his mother, Marigold, and his grandpa, with whom he lives. I
loved everything about Deo...his cocky dialogue, his killer looks, and
his sincerity. What he willingly sacrifices and all he does to help
Whit makes me love him...and hurt for him...even more! His patience
with Whit and her plight was so endearing, I wanted to snatch him up
myself and confess all my secrets....well, if I had any that is. Whit
is a little more complicated. "She is all kinds of
contradictions." She has moved away from all family and friends in
Amish country to pursue her independence and education....without any
attachments or complications. She has goals of a future and works hard
to attain them, but she carries a deep secret and refuses to let anyone
know of her heartache and past....especially Deo. At first, I just
couldn't like Whit...I tried, but it just wasn't feeling her. I wanted
to just scream at her to open up already and grab Deo for the
spectacular man he is! But the co-authors gave me a slow reveal into
Whit's secret past and guilt, to the point I suddenly found myself full
of compassion....and tearful eyes...for this woman. Whit finds it hard
to resist Deo and his charms. She eventually wins me over in a big way
with an understanding and sympathy for her inner torment. I have to
mention Marigold and Grandpa. Who wouldn't love Marigold and Grandpa?
Marigold is one flippy hippy with a heart full of love for Deo. Her
descriptions of sex/sexual acts cracked me up. But, don't let the hippy
facade fool you. She is one wise woman who calls 'em like she sees 'em
and, by far, is my favorite character in the book. Grandpa...with his
72" LED TV strictly for UFC fights, beer, and pistachios... is just
plain funny. He is no holds barred. He and Deo share a special type of
relationship that is full of honesty, love...with a funny back and forth
banter. The emotions I had while reading this book were so crazed
and going in every direction. I hurt, I cried, I angered, I tensed, I
laughed. I won't say it was a roller coaster of emotions, because it
was so much more. I started to wonder if I needed to make an
appointment with my doctor to diagnose me as manic bipolar! My emotions
were that off the chart! This is a very easy and fast read that will
leave you panting for more Deo. This story brings issues of
selfishness, guilt, trust, love, and sacrifice to the forefront. I give
it 4 stars and recommend to all adult lovers of a good and relaxing
    romance.

Emotions galore!! Both Whit and Deo are broken and it was amazing to see
how they both handled it in different ways. Loved Deo's
strength, understanding, and drive to get Whit to come out of her shell
and allow him to be there for her! The lengths people go to overcome
drama and/or anxiety is infinite...but it seems that love always
    prevails!

LENGTHS is an overall well rounded story.  The two main characters, Deo and Whit, are emotionally flawed, and evolve with each other to deal with past hurts and internal demons, as well as “grow up”.  I enjoyed the narrative/plot, and felt the dialogue, situations, and characters were believable.  The authors achieved the “show don’t tell” rule, because I could actually smell salty ocean air when the characters were at the beach.  There are quite a few steamy scenes, so definitely not a book for a high school aged readers.  The book maintained a steady pace.  This was not a “page turner” type story for me, but it kept my interest, and had no slow moving areas.  As Goldilocks would say “it was just right”.  I would rate this book as a definite read, it was entertaining, and I look forward to reading more stories from Liz and Steph.

Awesome read. The characters were well developed and I enjoed the story line. There were moments that had me shaking laughing, tugged at my heart, and fanning myself from. Those three points are rarely found together, however this book was well written and well worth $4.

I was extremely disappointed in this book. Whit was so frigging annoying! If i was Deo i wouldn't have even bothered. The story line was lacking to me also. First time reading by these authors and it will be my last. If you want a great story for your money read Kristen Ashley she is awesome!
