Leo, The true Pope of Pitching

I have been a Braves fan since the early 70's and I have especially followed the Team since Leo took over as Pitching Coach, and his book Tales from the Braves Mound is a great read. Leo details not only his successes as Pitching Coach for the Braves, but his challenges as well. I have read his Instructional Book (1999) and after I read 'Tales', I can see why he is considered the best there is in teaching his craft. It was very interesting how, from a fan's point of view in following Smotltz, Glavine, Maddux and the rest of the Pitchers, that we see only the results of Leo's and his staff's hard work, but Leo tells how, as a coach, you have to adjust your teaching methods for every pitcher, yet sticking to the core beliefs of your 'system'. This book is a culmination of Leo and his Teacher, Johnny Sain's 'vision' of how we should teach our Pitchers. I follow their methods with my young Pitchers, and I suggest every Pitching Coach out there does the same. After you read this book, you will rush to the field and mirror Leo's methods and successes.

Almost like sneaking into the dugout.

Few of us will ever have the chance to sit and talk with Leo Mazzone. However the quality of this book is so high that reading it is not far from sitting beside the man and listening to his stories. All I can say is this is one of those books were you keep looking to see what page you are on because you don't want it to end.
