Overview

The friendship was born in Texas and launched one evening in the late 1960s when the “Lion” was prepared to take on several antagonists on behalf of the author, either one at a time or all at once … those were the choices Leo imparted to them.

The adversaries departed without making either selection and the author felt as though he’d just heard that classic line from the Alan Ladd film, Shane, “I’m a friend of Joey’s” echoing through the parking lot.

For decades, every time the author has heard the timeless tune, The Lion Sleeps Tonight, his soul has been filled with warmth, love, and the memory of an unshakable friendship with this man, especially when he roars this legendary melody into the author’s ears regardless of the time or distance between them.

“Under the magnetism of friendship the modest man becomes bold; the shy, confident; the lazy, active; and the impetuous, prudent and peaceful” wrote William Makepeace Thackeray. This author would like to think that he fits nicely into one of these categories, given the audaciousness acquired during his life with Leo … the Lion.

Meet the Author

I was asked recently, why do you write? My response … I write because I remember.

Those memories are all that I have of a family departed. I remember the enjoyable times, those that were appalling, along with the occasional sprinkle of contentment.

We all struggle with inner demons, sometimes on a daily basis and some have fought these battles for decades … that would be me. I bestowed unsullied trust upon those deemed worthy, yet they knew not the treasure, and this propelled me into oblivion for years.

In the end, I’m my happiest when I’m writing as it is my chosen weapon against my enemies within. "The pen is mightier than the sword" is somewhat of a proverb coined by English author Edward Bulwer-Lytton in 1839. Indeed … it is.

    Highly recommend this new author

This authors short story is about his friends and times gone by. It made me wish I had a lifelong friend like his "Leo". I will definitely be purchasing more from this author.
