    horrible navigation

Almost unusable due to very poor navigation. Clumsy at best. The print version is 100% better.

    Disappointed overall

Out of the last five movies I looked up in Leonard Maltin's movie guide, none were found. They were all foreign films. Does this critic only review domestic feature films? I am also highly disappointed that the rating symbols have downloaded as question marks ... so I get ?? or ??? as a rating guide. Very distracting. I tried removing the book from my Nook more than once and re-downloading it, but nothing solves the problem. Rate me disappointed.

Did you ever try to remember that movie where?

This book is a wonderful reference book. It gives you the title, director, main actors, a synopsis of the plot and a rating. You have to know an approximate title but it has been helpful in our home.

    MOVIE GUIDE FOR EVERYONE!

Yes,folks! Leonard Maltin has done it again! His "2010 Movie Guide" is on sale in bookstores everywhere! This edition has more than 17,000 entries including over 350 new listings, more than 11,000 DVD listings, and more than 13,000 video listings! If you ever saw,in your newspaper,a movie you might be interested in-just pick up this edition of Maltin's Movie Guide and get the details. This Guide is a must have for any movie fan's home. I keep my copy of this wonderful guide near my TV remote and refer to it frequently. It saves me time watching a film that may be a real stinker and helps me find a really good movie. Each movie listing gives title, date of release, running length,Maltin's rating by stars, director, cast, review of the movie and how it is released on video(if at all). And if that is not enough, the back of the book lists all the major stars and the movies they were in. Now isn't that a great idea! I rate "Leonard Maltin's 2010 Movie Guide" top notch with four fantastic stars!!! Yeah!!It's that good!!

Nook Book Easier to Use than Paper Book, but Faulty Rating Symbols

Nook Book format makes searching by title, actors, directors or any text string a breeze. Much faster to search, much lighter & easier to read than my very thick & small font 2005 paperback version. 2005 paper version can only be searched by movie title, and somewhat by the limited list of actors and their movies in the back of the book.

One problem is that in my downloaded sample book on both the NC & Vista PC, the ratings symbols, asterisks (**) in my 2005 paper verion) come out as "empty rectangles" on the NC & "question marks (??)" on my Vista PC. Similarly, the symbols at the end of each review for Vidocassette, Laserdisk & DVD availability (filled black triangle, circle & semi-circle in my 2005 paper version) are shown incorrectly as "empty rectangles" on the NC and "question marks" on the Vista PC. While you can figure out the ratings by the number of the incorrect symbols ("1/2" rating characters are shown correctly), you cannot determine the media availability type in the NookBook version.

Please offer latest version 2011 or 2012 in Nook format, fix the ratings & media symbols, and charge less than paper version to earn 5 stars.

    Excellent Movie Guide

Leonard Maltin's yearly movie guide is an excellent quick reference for the movie watcher. It contains reviews for nearly every American (and many foreign) Film around. Each film is given a star rating, a brief synopsis, and then Maltin and his team voice their opinion on the film. Most of the reviews are spot on and every year the book is updated with new entries, so it just keeps expanding. I have owned one for the past seven years and look in it nearly every day. Excellent Movie Guide

    A Must Have Book

This book is terriffic. I like to watch movies on tv. I look in this book to tell the casts, the year it was made, a brief sketch of the movie, and, at the end of the movie section, it gives some more famous actors and actresses. Tells the movies they have been in.
This book is for movie buffs. Plus, it is a good book for crossword puzzle people. Crossword puzzles want a director of a movie. The answer is in this book. This book is money well spent.

    Very handy quick reference

I have purchased many of these in the past. The guide is a quick, concise, and very portable guide for most movies. Most of the descriptions are quite good. Ratings, as is always the case, are a bit more subjective, but overall pretty good.

    I Also Recommend:

    The one to go to.

I have bought the updated version every year for decades. There are other guides, which may be better in some respects, but this reference give informative thumbnail reviews that I rarely disagree with for almost every movie I seek information about, and all in a convenient, inexpensive pocketbook. I also have Maltin's Classic Movie Guide, which expands the stock of available reviews significantly. I have other guides, but this is the one I keep on hand and go to first.

    The Film Addict's Companion

Want to check if a flick is worth investing two hours of your life in? Can't remember the name of that character actor you've seen a hundred times? Tracking the work of certain actors or directors? Just want to learn more? Everything you ever wanted to know to make intelligent choices on TCM or Netflix. Heavy enough to use for weight resistance on arm lifts. So thick the binding usually gives out and pages flutter to the floor. But one of the niftiest reference books ever.

    I buy every edition

I don't buy a lot of books, maybe half a dozen a year, but this is one I buy every year without fail, as soon as it's published, in the trade (Plume) edition (as opposed to the smaller Penguin edition). Due to the limited space inherent in a softbound book, it's not as comprehensive as an online reference with unlimited storage, but its accuracy and relevance regarding its subject can hardly be questioned by anybody, be they student or scholar, lay person or professional. This is the one reference I trust the most; and for conciseness, it can't be topped.
