Overview

Painter, sculptor, architect, musician, scientist, mathematician, engineer, inventor, anatomist, geologist, cartographer, botanist, and writer, Leonardo da Vinci was a genius who was well ahead of his time and the best example of the Renaissance man. This is the story of one of the greatest painters of all time, and perhaps the most diversely talented person ever to have lived.
Leonardo grew up in the hamlet of Anchiano in Tuscany where he received an informal education. Young Leonardo had an unquenchable curiosity in life and moved to Florence where he took an interest in painting. At the age of fourteen,
Leonardo began an apprenticeship with Andrea del Verrocchio. Here, his talent blossomed and as fate would have it, he was soon employed by the rich and powerful Duke of Milan. Soon, Leonardo moved to the city of Rome, where some of the greatest artists of the time lived. This tale traces the fascinating life of one of the best and most famous artists that the world has ever seen.

Editorial Reviews

VOYA - Mary Ann Darby
Da Vinci's story opens with the theft of the Mona Lisa from the Louvre in 1911, then backtracks to da Vinci's turbulent childhood in Italy during the Renaissance. Throughout the tale, the mind of da Vinci is shown to be always active, always questioning, always seeking ways to create something better. His tale is dramatically told in graphic format and ends with notes on his patrons, a glossary of the techniques he used in art, and notes on the most famous Renaissance men. What better way to entice middle and junior high school students to read stories of those who shaped history than to weave them into graphic format? Libraries looking to engage students with biographic materials will want to consider this series. Campfire's goal is to entertain and educate young minds and for the stories to evoke the feeling of sitting around a campfire spinning stories. The books open with sketches of the most important characters in the stories, which help students know who to key in on as they read. These slender volumes will interest students who want to explore biographies of the luminaries of the past. (Campfire Graphic Novels) Reviewer: Mary Ann Darby
