Editorial Reviews

Nation
Baudelaire revoiced...Howard's achievement is such that we can be confident that his Flowers of Evil will long stand as definitive, a superb guide to France's greatest poet.
New Republic
[An] intelligent responsiveness to the poem's meaning informs almost every translation in this volume.
Boston Globe
Not until now has there been an edition of the entire work which successfully captures the distinctive voice of Baudelaire...The level of success among 151 lyrics is so high as to guarantee that Richard Howard's will be the definitive translation in the foreseeable future.
New York Times Book Review
Readers of English do not have to take Baudelaire on faith any longer. For the first time he is present among us, vivid and surprisingly intact, in these fine translations.
Washington Post Book World
Richard Howard, generally esteemed as the finest American translator from the French of the postwar era, offers a new version of this masterpiece...It is indubitably the English edition to acquire.
New York Review of Books
A deft and patient new translation of Les Fleurs Du Mal...Howard, it seems to me, has done what he has set out to, has given us, in English and in verse, a Baudelaire both immediately recognizable and impressively varied...It is a considerable achievement.

MAL a total drama fanfic ch. 8

    Mal's Pov
Alejandro's eyes widened as Heather smirked, "why me?"
Chris laughed, "why not?" He turned to my team, "Hamsters, which of you is going to Boney Island?" None of us responded and Chris smiled, "no one volunteers? That means I get to pick," He scanned us before his eyes stopped on me, "Mike."
I scowled, exile on Boney I sland was useless since I had already found he invincibility statue. Plus, it gave Duncan time to tell the others about me. I had to throw him off my path.
I stood up slowly, "fine," I quickly gave Zoey a hug. That should do it. Whistling, I walked over to the boat and flipped my hair down, I was out of everyone's line of sight.
Or so I thought, I didn't notice my competitor lurking behind the trees.
Heather's Pov (Yeah, it's not Mal or Mike, I wanted to add her though)
I gasped at what I had just seen. Mike wasn't in control, he didn't wear his hair down like that. I shivered, Alejandro was gone, but this "Mike" might give me a problem. Another thing, I knew he had the immunity idol. There was a bulge in his pocket, just the right size. It hadn't been there before the challenge.
"What are you doing?" I whirled around to face Gwen.
"Nothing, just, um, didn't want to watch Alejandro get flushed."
Her eyes glinted, "you caused his elimination, he betrayed you, and you still like him?"
"No," I scoffed, "Just, leave me alone!" I shoved past her and stalked off to the cabins, alone so I could sort out my thoughts.
Mike's Pov
Mal ha let me watch the elimination ceremony, and he had forgotten to take the mirror down. I smirked, he hadn't noticed Heather lurking behind the trees. She was manipulative, she would find a way to wrap Mal around her finger.
The mirror shimmered and Mal appeared, "exile," he scowled, "it's like Chris knows."
I responded, "he probably does," Mal hadn't made me use the gag agai either. As long as I promised to be quiet.
He rolled his eyes, "Duncan won't get very far. He'll be off beford I am."
"I raised an eyebrow, "what if he gets the others to conspire against you?"
"I found the invicibilty statue, I'm safe."
"For now," I narrowed my eyes.
"Forever, only one person knows about me, two if I count you," he laughed.
"Don't be so sure about that."
"No one will believe Duncan."
"That's not what I meant," I chuckled, "someone else saw you."
He scowled, "who?"
Smirking, I replied, "wouldn't you like to know."
Please rate and review. Next chapter will be in the next result. Also, read my newest TD fanfic at 'captured'.
