First Night Records' single-CD "highlights" abridgement of Les Misérables' original London cast album cuts the score down from 31 tracks to 19 with a running time of 70 minutes. Of course, the selection includes the best-known numbers, among them "I Dreamed a Dream," as ably performed by Patti LuPone in the role of Fantine. Fans of Susan Boyle, who rocketed to fame singing the song on Britain's Got Talent, should be pleased by the presence of this and other power ballads.
