The third book in the series is darker than the first two. Our hero is forced to confront several hard truths while suffering debilitating injuries. Do not be surprised if this author evokes tears in his description of Adrian's capture. The writing is still splendid, the relationships among the characters drawn in moving and sometimes frightening clarity, the world at risk between the dueling Guardians and Angels. I could not put this book down, and finished it at 4 am, because I cared too much about the characters and needed to see what their fates might be. I am amused that the author's pseudonym is the name of his main character, and I hope this means that the young man of whom I have grown so fond will live happily ever after. This author, though not a household name yet, bears watching for his ingenuity and fine writing. I expect further great books from him.
