I bought this book about a week ago and read it cover to cover, finding it difficult to put it down or out of mind. And since that time I have been drawn back to it twice again, and bought several copies to share with friends struggling with life's various trials. Although this book is one man's journey of his suffering with his disease of renal cell cancer, his is a journey that can be compared in many ways to everyman's suffering whether that suffering be physical, emotional, or spiritual. Father Jim's story, although tragic, is positive, uplifting and hopeful. His story provides a glimpse into the peace, growth and strength that suffering develops in each of us. Father Jim makes us believers that suffering is a renaissance of spirit and not the desperate ruin that tragedy suggests. The lessons of suffering suggested in this book suggest to me that suffering perfects us for eternal life with our Lord, Jesus Christ. I am grateful for these 'lessons in the school of suffering' that put a positive spin on why bad things happen to good people. I pray that these lessons can inspire me to approach suffering with the humility, courage and faith that Fr. Jim teaches in this gift 'Lessons in the School of Suffering'.Was this review helpful?
