So often in life, bad things happen and we haven't a clue why God would allow such events to take place. We worry, hurt, and shake the preverbal fist up at the heavens, and yet nothing changes. Life continues to be hard and we wonder what could possibly come from such pain. We struggle to learn the skills necessary to survive and function through the turmoil and chaos

Overview

So often in life, bad things happen and we haven't a clue why God would allow such events to take place. We worry, hurt, and shake the preverbal fist up at the heavens, and yet nothing changes. Life continues to be hard and we wonder what could possibly come from such pain. We struggle to learn the skills necessary to survive and function through the turmoil and chaos of everyday life.

Yet we endure. Slowly and painfully, we accumulate knowledge and wisdom. We are molded into stronger and wiser people. Life becomes a better place as we learn lessons and un-learn others.

This book is hard to read and my heart goes out to Justin and the thousands of other children that go through abuse everyday, this book is powerful and inspiring. I have read this book twice and it leaves me drain but to know Justin is a blessing, and it also bring hope to alot of children that are going through abuse. I think everybody should read this book so we know whats going on behind close doors so we can be the voice of of many children. May God Bless You Always.

lessons learned and lost is not a book for the faint hearted or those who choose a blind eye in order to sweep un-wanted subjects under the rug. it is a harsh, dark, sad, and very true story that sheds light on what happens in everyday life to everyday people. regardless of where you stand in life, this book is a must read, whether if you have been abused by another, caused abuse to yourself, or know someone that has been through their own personal hell life has to offer this book speaks more or less of very heavy truths that are heart-breaking but also leave room for hope. jessica hayes

If I had just a handful of words to describe this book, they'd be: powerful, heartbreaking, inspiring, and unputdownable. Hollingshead's writing is incredible. If I were in charge of handing out awards, one would be heading his way. His book is incredibly moving. It just resonates with feeling and emotion. The mood might be dark. The ending bittersweet, but oh-what-a-book.I found the author¿s many ¿tests of faith¿ as both overwhelmingly sad and deeply touching. Bit by bit, Hollingshead reveals the depths of psychological and physical abuse that have held him captive. His voice is prematurely aged; vivid but never graphic, some details of the abuse perfectly capture the way in which he has normalized his situation while still recognizing the truth. Some parts are incredibly disturbing but it is life as many people in the world know it and one that we others who have not experienced it, can not comprehend. Hollingshead provides no easy answers nor a happy resolution, although the ending provides a sense of release and the ¿key¿ that will allow him to heal despite the deep embedded scars. Although the writing is beautiful in every way, the story as a whole is not. It is harsh and ugly and because of that it is utterly real. This is our society and unfortunately, this story is part of the actual norm. We only hear of the sad endings in the news but for once, it is good to see that there is good when we choose HIM for ourselves. Our past can not be changed but when we choose HIM, we choose to be set free and released from the heavy chains that once held us down with zero hope. WE cease to exist and start to LIVE!

You will see the world in new glorious eyes. Example: every time i was whining or begging for somthisg i felt like a total jerk. i felt like a hole nother world was open to me and i could hilp.
