This is a book that I have read more than once. It inspires me every time. The author makes St Frances so accessible to the modern reader with ancient truths of the Christian faith. I also like the chapter breakdowns and the scattering of quotes. If you practice Lent, this would be a great book for reflection.

Mr. Talbot takes the life and convictions of St. Francis of Assisi and places them into perspective in the 21st century. The beauty of the book is that it is an indictment of what our materialistic society pounds into our heads every day. We have everything you could ever dream of and yet we're still not happy. What is missing? Without being overly simplistic, Mr. Talbot suggests that we're missing simplicity and the appreciation of the life Jesus preached for us to follow. Not overindulging, living a humble existence, and getting closer to the pure teachings that Jesus espoused during his earthly ministry (and were resurrected in their purest form by St. Francis in central Italy during the thirteenth-century at a time when the Church was living anything but a Godly existence). If you're open to seeing how Simplicity, Humility, Solitude, Creativity, Compassion, Service and Prayer can bring peace and a sense of purpose to your life then this is the book for you. I'd go so far as to say it is almost life-changing!

the book is good, but this book came in very poor condition. The cover was very damaged and bent. Especially terrible since this book was gift.
