First Chapter

Letter 1 The Advantages of Humility

I often pray to God that He would keep you in the hollow of His hand. And this He certainly will do if you remember to keep a humble and obedient spirit. Humility is good in every situation, because it produces that teachable spirit which makes everything easy. And you, of all people, would be more guilty than many others if you made any resistance to the Lord on this point. For on the one hand, the Lord has taught you so much on the necessity of becoming like a little child; and on the other, few people have had an experience more fitting to humiliate the heart and destroy self-confidence. The good that comes from any experience of personal weakness is the realization that God wants us to be lowly and obedient. So may the Lord keep you!

This is a treasured little book

I received this book when I became a new believer in High School. What a treasure. It is a devotional and will be referred to again and again. Fenelon encourages you to surrender to the loving will of the Father in order to truly live a victorious life. A surrendered life is a fulfilled life. Fenelon, also commonly known as François Fénelon, was a contemporary of Jeanne Marie Bouvier de la Motte Guyon (or Mme. Guyon) in the mid 1600's. Mme. Guyon is herself an author. If you desire to pursue a deeper walk with the Lord, this little treasure will encourage you with it's nuggets of wisdom. Buy two and give one away!

    The Best Christian Devotional Around!

This is my all-time favorite Christian devotional(I have bought multiple copies over the years to give as gifts, or to replace my wornout copies), written originally in the French, in the 17th century, by Fenelon, who was the Christian leader for the King (Louis the 14th or 16th?).

Apparently, he wrote letters to the members of the court who were Christian and struggling with the opulence and destroyed integrityof those surrounding them. The letters are always inspirational to me, whether I am struglling with something or not. I would, in fact, love to get a copy of the original book in French for my collection.
