One of Los Angeles' top young pianists, Josh Nelson also emerges on Let It Go as a fine accompanist. His originals are successful at stimulating the musicians, although none are destined to become standards. Best is his "Introspection on 401," a fiery yet thoughtful jazz waltz featuring tenor saxophonist Seamus Blake. The one standard of the set, "Love Letters," features some fine straight-ahead blowing by Nelson and Blake that overshadows some of the more obscure material.
