Overview

No one in Sinful liked Pansy Arceneaux, but who hated her enough to kill her?

When aspiring actress Pansy Arceneaux returns to Sinful, Louisiana, to head up the beauty pageant portion of the Summer Festival, CIA assassin Fortune Redding knows she's in for trouble. Her undercover identity as a former beauty queen makes Fortune the perfect choice to chair the event with Pansy, but Pansy's abrasive personality makes it impossible to get through a single rehearsal without a fight.

When Pansy turns up dead, Fortune is the prime suspect.

Armed with only her wits and two conniving seniors referred to locally as The Geritol Mafia, Fortune launches an investigation to find the real killer before her cover is blown.

Meet the Author

Jana DeLeon was raised in southwest Louisiana among the bayous and gators. Her hometown is Carlyss, but you probably won't find it on a map. Her family owned a camp located on a bayou just off the Gulf of Mexico that you could only get there by boat. The most important feature was the rope hammock hanging in the shade on a huge deck that stretched out over the water where Jana spent many hours reading books.

Jana and her brother spent thousands of hours combing the bayous in a flat-bottom aluminum boat, studying the natural habitat of many birds, nutria and alligators. She would like you to know that no animals were injured during these "studies," but they kept makers of peroxide in business.

Jana has never stumbled across a mystery or a ghost like her heroines, but she's still hopeful.

She now resides in Dallas, Texas, with the most spoiled Sheltie in the world.

This is a quick light read. The plot was interesting and the ending was satisfactory. I thoroughly enjoyed the cast of characters, all of whom were well-defined and unique. I have read two other books by this author and intend to read others of hers.

This is one of the few set of books that made me laugh out loud. Both Miss Forune Mysteries were a great fun to read. Highly recommend the read of both in the series.

Characters continue to evolve and develop in second book of this series. Humorous without being "cute" or ridiculous. Characters not as far fetched as book #1. Author has gotten to know her cast better thus making them warmer and more real to the reader. OK plot, but writing skill makes up for it. One of the few books I have given 5 stars. Sure hope author comes up with a way to keep Fortune in Sinful. Perhaps assume the Sandy Sue persona as a witness protection person. Can't wait for #3.

This is a great second installment to the Miss Fortune series, as funny as the first and great at developing some of the characters and relationships started in Louisianna Longshot. You will draw stares from your family as you can't help but laugh at some of the parts (and perhaps wipe an eye at other parts). Highly recommended.

Fortune Redding returns with her 2nd week at Sinful and yet another murder. This time, Pansy is dead and Celia is determined to pin it on Fortune. The mystery is tricky this time too, but the humor never falters. Jana Deleon has a brilliant art of mixing mystery and humor in just the right proportions so as to not have too much of either. The characters of Fortune, Ida Bella, Gertie and Marie is fabulous and engaging. You cannot help but fall in love with the Sinful Ladies Society (SLS). The 2nd book in the series hints just enough to make the readers wonder if Carter and Fortune will end up together. They will, of course, make an amazing couple, if they can just keep from stepping on each others’ toes. Yet another fabulous read of Miss Fortune Series.

My sister told me of this series, and it is overall a great series. Lethal Bayou Beauty seems a little too long in places but is overall a good read. Humor, mystery, and a crazy town like Sinful, Louisiana, make for a great summer read. I often laughed out loud while reading this book!
