Editorial Reviews

I can't say I'm they type of girl who would typically love a story where the main character is a hit man, and yet...well, I'm hooked on Donovan Creed! John Locke's Donovan Creed books are light and entertaining. So many times I found myself laughing out loud as I read this book. Great book and a great buy.

This is a novel dealing with a primary character named Donovan Creed. In his primary job, he works for homeland security killing terrorists. Since this doesn't fill all of his time he also tests out torture devices for the military and sometimes does contract killings for the mob. Not necessarily the type of person you think of when you want to have a fun time or a romantic evening. Donovan really is a nice guy though. It is just that his work tends to give him a different outlook on life and th

If you have a stressful job, and you would like to have some reading for escape and entertainment, then the Donavan Creed books are just the thing for you. If you teach English, or you think that Jane Austen defines what a novel should be, then you will be disappointed.

Several reviewers recommend that you read the books in order, and this is good advice. They do not, however, tell you what that order is. I will do so. Start with Lethal People.

    Blast from beginning to end

I read the Donovan Creed novels out of order, but I was surprised to find myself liking book 1 more than the rest.

Starting my experience off with Saving Rachel left me scratching my head about the series but I ventured forth and am not sorry.

Fun author, fun stories, fairly dark, plenty awesome.

    Train Wreck

The book is definitely a shocker. It took a little while for me to really get into it. If you've got high morals - stay away from this one, you'll likely be traumatized. Once I could get into the groove of who Creed is and the dark humor, I found myself unable to dislike his amoral behavior. I couldn't put the book down. It's like a train wreck and like all good train wrecks, you know you shouldn't look - you know what you are going to find is going to be disturbing, but you just can't help yourself. Hope the sequel is just as enjoyable!

Who else could come up with this stuff??

This is the first Donovan Creed book and is such a fun surprise!` From the get-go, you just never know what to expect with this guy. A former-CIA, he is an assasin one minute and then opens his heart up to a little girl, a burn victim, the next. This is the first glimpse into Creed's world of assasins, gansters, women, little circus people and evil midgets bent on taking over the world.Could this happen?-of course not, but somehow Locke makes all of this come together and make perfect sense and along the way it is just a laugh-out-loud riot! Another quick read that leaves you craving more Creed by the time you get to the last page!

A little quirky - always fun

This is my second Donavan Creed story and I was throughly entertained. Lot's of characters with interesting story lines. Creed is ex CIA and he tests government new weapons and works as a contract killer on the side...all this and even has a heart. Again these stories are your mainstream but very interesting and quick reads...I will read more Creed stories.

    I Also Recommend:

Justice for those without personal style.

Donovan Creed is Amoral, he kills the guilty without pity, and the innocent with a little sadness, a little regret. He serves justice on the evil and sleazy, in spite of the fact that he may be more guilty than they are themselves. Of course there's something which seperates him from them; he has style and they have not.

    Well...

I do and don't like this. I like a slightly more noble main character for a protagonist. Still, the action and dialog was entertaining, and the characters held my interest. I hope the series improves, and I will try the next book.

    Better than anticipated!

I wasn't sure what to expect but this was a good read. It started slow but by the end I was turning pages to get to the ending. I was ready for another chapter but it ended. I'll have to get the next book in the series to see what happens next!

    Spectacular

Locke is a master story teller. He provides action, mystery, humor, and even a little romance. He puts it all together and ties a big bow around it. You won't be disappointed!!

Odd, Unique, Fast Paced, Did I Mention Odd?

We meet Donovan Creed right away and a small group of friends or associates, depending on how you look at it. He is an assassin working for a couple different groups with differing agendas. There are twists and turns throughout, and you never know what will happen next.

The characters are quirky and interesting, especially Creed. Locke has an uncanny ability to create unique characters. Each has something about them that makes it hard for the reader to forget, sometimes physical, sometimes emotional or psychological.

I felt the characterization was also a weak point. The female characters were unique as well, but sometimes I felt their motives were a little off. They did things and responded in ways that I'm not sure a woman would. I mean this from a psychological standpoint. Obviously, if a woman in his book is an assassin she will probably kill somebody. It was in the subtleties, the slight differences that makes a woman a woman. I believe this was one of his earlier books so I'm sure he only gets better.

The plot and pacing were great. His writing wasn't extravagant but it didn't matter. It was a page turner, and simple to read, perfect for the price.

The series isn't what I usually look for in a book, but for the price, and the quality of the story he told, it's hard to beat.

    Escapism at its Best

I just finished reading Lethal People, and it was the most fun I've had in a while. Yes, parts of it are unrealistic, but that's the charm of the novel. Hey, it's fiction. I was easily able to suspend disbelief and enjoy the ride. I'll be reading the rest of the series.
