Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
As part of the "Spyglass Books" social studies series, this book focuses on different forms of communication that have been and still are used around the world. Beginning with smoke signals and drumbeats and ending with e-mail, the author briefly describes the history of communication. Slightly disappointing is the omission of cellular phones in such a current book. The text is very basic and written with preschoolers and beginning readers in mind. Each page of information is accompanied by a full page, color photograph on the opposing page. A related activity is included at the end of the book. Also included is a glossary, index, a list of more books to read, and web site references to enhance further study. This series would be best put to use in a preschool, kindergarten, or library setting. 2003, Compass Point Books, Ages 3 to 5.
