All Music Guide
This young Ontario-based quartet works in a not terribly original but completely winning pop-punk vein, churning out power chords, hooky choruses, and sweet vocal harmonies at tempos that generally vary between medium-fast ("From Underneath," "Letters to the President") and rip-roaring ("California," "Recess"). Hawk Nelson are on the Tooth & Nail label and little phrases like "It's from my Father's hand" and "She thinks life would be so simple if everyone would pray" keep cropping up, so there's good reason to believe that this is one of those crypto-Christian pop bands that can't help expressing its faith but is less interested in bringing you to Christ than in making sure you bop to the beat and take away a ...

Of course, once in a while they'd like you to just bang your head, which explains the headlong, 50-second punk rush of "Recess." And they're not afraid to let you know that they sometimes stand by the window crying, either ("Take Me"), which one supposes is kind of endearing if you're into that whole Jade Tree/Promise Ring/Rainer Maria Rilke thing. Overall, not bad at all. [The Deluxe Edition of Letters to the President

A good Christian punk-shot at music.

This album has a good varaity of Christian-charged lyrics and excellent rock/pop sonic chunks. They don't, however, plough any new ground, so to speak. The album has heavy influences from Relient K, mxpx, Good Charlotte and the like. While they do attempt to mix it up a little with brit-rock and pop style, it isnt really noticable to the overall tone. The best and also most popular song on the disc is "Take Me", which definatly is a winner as far as changing it up within a song. The disc is good, but not outstanding. Their style is already mature, so a little more experience finding their own stlye, and it could be something really amazing.

    Excellence!

Hawk Nelson Rocks beyond all imaginability! They stay true to their style, and the lyrics actually mean something. Much better than many other bands these days. As long as HN stays true to God and their hearts, they will go far. They are already number one in my book!

    Awesomely Awesome

I absolutely fell in love w/ this CD! The weird yet very cool at the same time thing is that this CD (the original actually) came out on my golden birthday so it was as if they were MEANT for me... also it helps that "Cali" is my fave state as well!!! Purchase it at your local B & N

    New Stuff?

What's up with this CD. Ok, I've had their CD for more than a year and this is all that they can come up with in that space of time? Most of the songs are acoustic versions of their other songs. None of them are really rockin. Two other tracks are just Jason speaking in French and telling the story of some other remake song they made. Granted, the song My Generation isn't bad, but it isn't theirs either. I was just disappointed that they couldn't come out with something new and original like the first CD. It will be another year before a real new CD comes from them. It will be a long wait.
