Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble
Until he was snatched from Reality, Leven Thumps was just a mild-mannered 14-year-old teenager from Oklahoma. Now, while his schoolmates are talking sports and crushes, this powerfully gifted teen is working overtime to prevent a takeover of Reality by forces that have nightmares on their minds. A gripping installment in the mind-stretching Leven Thumps epic.
Kirkus Reviews
Skye continues to squander the promise of Leven Thumps and the Gateway to Foo (2005) in this third of a projected four volumes. Slowing the pace to a drawn-out ramble and stuffing the multiple plot lines with more additions to an already bewilderingly large cast, he sends stodgy Leven and his never-serious sidekick Clover one way, toward the mysterious sage known as the Want. Meanwhile, allies Geth and Winter go another to discover that the dream land of Foo is aboil with plans to break down the barrier that separates it from Reality, and to revive something called the Dearth. Whether or not that would be a good thing, and whose side Geth and other major players are actually on, becomes anybody's guess as armies gather, a major island collapses and sinks into the sea with excruciating slowness and the point-of-view shifts with suspense-destroying frequency so that side characters can check in with some inscrutable action or discovery. Despite ten pages of notes at the end, readers who haven't been following Leven's adventure from the beginning will flounder-and most likely end up not really caring what happens one way or the other. The ingenious twists and distinctive prose that animated the opener have turned into self-indulgence. (Fantasy. 11-13)

A Darker Focus, Favorite Characters Change...

I am reading this series, and specifically, have read this book, along with my ten-year-old daughter. Though my daughter quickly breezed through the first two books in this series, her paced slowed considerably for this, the third book in sequence. When I inquired as to the reason why it was taking her much longer to complete the book, my daughter replied, "Most of the chapters focus around the bad guys a lot more [than the prior books], and I guess I don't really like that all that much. .I also don't like what they've done to Winter," (referring to the supporting female character in the series). "She used to be strong and important, and now she's not - it's like it's always about the guys." Having already completed the book myself, I realized that my daughter was correct, and that The Eyes of the Want not only has a darker focus than its two predecessors, but also significantly changes the personality of its major female character. This may present a challenge to the younger female audience to stay interested through the book's completion, an unfortunate fact because the story's twists and turns, teasing secrets, and suspenseful excitement can certainly be enjoyed by all. However, in letting my daughter continue, she added, "I'll keep reading, though. Maybe I just don't like this part of the story, but I really do want to see how it all ends up!"

Interesting. I'm not quite sure where this series is going, but

Interesting. I'm not quite sure where this series is going, but I'm somewhat enjoying the ride. The problem with this odd story is I'm not sure if and when the author is being or trying to be metaphorical.

    My review of Leven Thumps

This book is about a kid named Leven Thumps and his copanions, Geth and Winter Frore are trying to save foo(the land of dreams) from the Dearth. I loved this book because Obert Skye gives great detail and has a great idea for a book. I would recomend it to anyone who has read the other books.

    Favorite in the series

This series is so intersting. Skye takes amazingly normal things and makes them entertaining. His imagination is unbelivable. I loved this volume even more than the last two. I love what Leven is becoming, and the further unveiling of Foo. This is not a simple story like so many of the fantasies I have read. This is the birth and miracle of Foo and a completly new Oz. I would recomend this to anyone who wants something different and more entertaining and clever than what is being slopped around. I consider this almost as good as Harry, and might even perfer it more if the ending of the series is as satisfying as the first.

    A reviewer

It's a great book, in my opinion not as good as the other 2, but you know in a way that Book 4, will be a GREAT BOOK! In a way it seems like a bridge to the next book, but they still fill it with great adventures. No mater what you still have to read, 1, 2, and 3.
