The Shadows: Chapter 5

When Lucky regained co<_>nsciousness, she had no idea where she was. Then it occured to her. The bleach white walls, the bright lights...this was the Neopia Hospital. Lucky had only been here once, when her sister Magic came down with an il<_>lness. It turned out to be the Achy Head. But the Blue Zafara didn't know why she was here. Then it recurred to her. The attack at the Neopian Central Lab. Her owner was kidnapped, the thought of which brought tears into her dark eyes.
[All of this,] she thought, [because of some st<_>upid plan to unleash Wraiths.]
Suddenly, her three sisters walked into the room, perhaps to visit the Zafara.
"Lucky! You're awake!" Sue said.
"Yeah. I guess I am," Lucky replied sadly.
"What happened at the lab? Who ever did this to you and ki<_>dnapped Morrin, I will tear him apart, li<_>mb by li<_>mb!" Sharkest growled, baring her ra<_>zor sharp teeth. Lucky explained everything.
"Oh my Fyora! There's a cu<_>lt of Wraith wo<_>rshippers!?" Magic cried.
"Apparently."
"We better tell TN<_>T. Also, we're staying with Rose. She's another human," said the Orange Kougra.
A Green Gelert's head poked through the door.
"I think it's time you let her sleep."
"Yes, sir. We'll see you tomorrow," the Xweetok said to Lucky.
***
THREE DAYS LATER
***
Earlier that day, Lucky had been di<_>scharged from the hospital. She met the tomboyish girl Rose and her two Neopets, Terra the Brown Lupe and Gandalf the Tyrannian Koi, for the first time. Lucky liked them, though Gandalf was a bit...aggressive. She had a feeling that Sharkest and Gandalf will get along well. Rose let her look through Morrin's Safety De<_>posit Box for something to bring along. Lucky looked around in the SBD. There was the Rainbow Buzz Plushie that she always adored, and she picked it up. She also got the Ultranova Scroll, all the retired items, and a few berries from Pick Your Own. Then Lucky caught something out of the corner of her eye. It was a wooden object with stiff bristles at the end, which was covered in red and green paint.
A Christmas Paintbrush.
Lucky always wanted to be a Christmas Zafara. She could be a Faerie Zafara, of course, but she prefered to be Christmas, with snow white fur and wings. Lucky walked up to it, and tapped onto it was a note.
Dear Lucky,
I hoped you had a great time at the Neopian Central Lab! You're probably wondering why I randomly sent you to the SBD when we got home and there was a Christmas Paintbrush in there. Well, I always knew that you wanted one of those. So I got you a Paintbrush! I hope you love it!
Sincerely,
Morrin
"I do love your gift," she muttered. Upon leaving the SBD, Lucky asked Rose if she can go to the Rainbow Pool.
"Yeah, sure," the human replied.
***
Lucky approached the shimmering waters. A Green Bori, holding a Faerie Paintbrush, jumped into the Rainbow Pool. It reemerged as a Faerie Bori, elegant wings spread wide and the Paintbrush nowhere to be seen. Lucky had her Christmas Paintbrush in a pocket sewn into her jacket. Suddenly, she felt it slip out. Lucky turned around to find a Darigan Zafara running away from her, gripping the Paintbrush.
"Hey! Get back here!" she yelled, chasing him.
