Chapter One

"It's time for show and tell." Mrs. Slama announced with a smile. She went on, "Remember, you were supposed to bring something that represented what you did over school break"

Libby loved show and tell. Once a month, the children could bring something special to share with their classmates.

One by one, the students happily shared their show and tell item. Reese brought a cactus plant, Paityn a princess doll, Noah a dinosaur puzzle, Makaa a book about horses, Hailey a sketch pad, Brynlee a volleyball, Jaxsoon a skateboard, and best of all, Hannah shared a picture of her new cousin.

"He was born in August." Hannah said with pride.

I can't wait to meet him." Libby whispered to her best friend, Hannah, as she sat down. Now it was Libby[s turn. She brought her favorite treat, green popcorn balls, and passed them out to her classmates.

Next, Jermaine leaned forward to Libby and said, "Get ready for the best show and tell presentation ever."

Jermaine walked tall to the front of the class with popcorn ball chunks all over his face. He pointed to a map. "You saved the best for last. My family and I went to South Africa over break. It was awesome! We swam in the ocean. We rode a jeep in the wilderness. We saw all sorts of wild animals!"

Hannah glanced at Libby and said, "Wow, Jermaine is really lucky."

The school bell rang. It was Friday and Hannah was staying the night at Libby's house. As they boarded the bus Libby noticed Hannah didn't seem like her cheerful self.

"Is something wrong, Hannah?" Libby asked in a worried voice.

"I guess I'm just jealous. Jermaine's vacation sounded so wonderful. I have always wanted to see the ocean," Hannah explained sadly.

Libby thought about what Hannah said the whole bus ride home. Her family had never gone on a vacation like that before, either.

A smile formed on Libby's little face. I have an ideal" Libby exclaimed as she stepped off the bus.
