Liberation Songs to Benefit PETA

Editorial Reviews

All Music Guide - Jo-Ann Greene

Label mates Good Riddance, Frenzal Rhomb, Anti-Flag, and Propagandhi are all represented, but it's not merely a Fat party, there are plenty of other participants as well. There are also offerings from Goldfinger, Hot Water Music, the Eyeliners, the Used, Good Charlotte, and more. Virtually all of the songs are easily found on the band's ...

At a bargain-basement price, and with all proceeds going to a good cause -- PETA, the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals -- Liberation would be worth buying even if you have most of these songs already. The project was overseen by Fat Wreck Chords head and NOFX frontman Fat Mike, and of course his band puts in an appearance. Virtually all of the songs are easily found on the band's albums; however, Story of the Year offers up a taster from their forthcoming album, while the Used and Charlotte both deliver up harder-to-find numbers. Those latter two tracks are more than worth the price of admission alone. Only a few of the bands actually provide songs remotely connected with the cause -- NOFX's "Clams Have Feelings Too" obviously fits the bill, as does Goldfinger's "F**k Ted Nugent" and Propagandhi's harrowing "Purina Hall of Fame." As for the rest, never mind, just enjoy the music...and all the extras it comes with. This includes an interview with the Used, live footage of Good Charlotte, PETA ads that were turned down by the networks, and if you can stomach it, footage shot inside a slaughterhouse. Afterwards you'll be glad the liner notes provide contact information on how to help and information on eating meat-free.
