Children's Literature
Part of the "People in my Community" or "La Gente de mi Comunidad" bilingual series, this slim volume introduces beginning readers to the world of the children's librarian. In settings that could be school or public libraries, color photos of ethnically diverse children and adults help portray the basic work of the children's librarian, emphasizing her helpful interactions with children. Each photo is paired with a page of text consisting of two simple English sentences followed by their Spanish equivalent. The text is designed for beginning readers in that it is brief, repetitious and in large, clear print. A note to educators and parents at the beginning of the book explains the philosophy of the series and suggests how the books should be used. This book could be useful in a primary bilingual classroom. An index, glossary and short bibliography and web site list are included. 2002, Weekly Reader Early Learning Library, Ages 5 to 8.
