Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher
"Interesting and informative. While it's a relatively short book at 219 pages, it packs in a wealth of information. . . . What is especially good about this book is that everyone can beneļ¬t from it, not just managers. Anyone who leads a committee, team, project or other activity within the library can learn from this book. Leadership and management are not the same thing, and this book makes it clear. . . . Highly recommended for everyone."

The Journal of Academic Librarianship

VOYA - Barbara Allen
This fabulous text covers leadership in the library and discusses how leader has many definitions but is not always the person physically in charge. In the beginning of the book, sixteen different leadership theories are discussed, as well as what attributes make the best leaders. Using statistics and leadership theories, this study compares the United States to countries in Europe and also shows how the personality of the leader affects his or her leadership. This book would be great for new and seasoned librarians. It can be used to evaluate personal effectiveness as a leader and leadership philosophy. It gives an in-depth look at how real leaders function in U.S. and European libraries. It also breaks down the types of libraries and their functions. The endgame for this book is what librarians need to do to become effective leaders and what their goals should be once that is determined. Librarians need to stay trained for all areas that libraries deal with now and will deal with in the future. Reviewer: Barbara Allen
