Influential real estate developer Jonathan Gaetan is murdered. Was the killer Mary, his wife? Nut case Phil Jameson? Mary and Phil in collusion? Deposed detective Teddy Camel makes a comeback and sets the record straight in this ``violent, psychologically acute, grossly logical thriller, with an amusing epilogue,'' said PW . (Aug.)
Library Journal - Library Journal
Certainly not for the squeamish, this taut, gripping, and bloody thriller details the mad ravings of a warped personality. After seven years in prison, Philip confronts someone from his past, tortures her wealthy husband, and demands money. The following day, when the woman reports her husband's gory ``suicide,'' policeman Theodore Camel, astute but just marking time, suspects something more. As the plot alternates between the ex-con's depraved psychosexual fantasies and Camel's perserverance, tension takes hold, shaking the reader with the possible reality of it all. Scary.

Lie to Me is my favorite serial killer/thriller that I've read. It is gripping and real. The author paints pictures with his words that I won't soon forget. But what sets it apart from other novels of this genre is the fantastic end to the story.

The criminal is totally crazy and the aging detective who is mostly counting the days till retiring, and his memories of his marriage mistakes; the booze, his goofs and attitude made this reader very frustrated. All of the above still made this an interesting read.

Just an awful book. The dialogue is a rip off from a bad lifetime mive of the week. the charactrs are underdeveloped and the plot is juvinile and makes no sense

Got this book from a book club probably in the late 90s. Jaded cop who just can't tell if she's lying . Excellent story.
