I'm sure many women can relate to Julisa's story. So many things went wrong in her relationships...I felt bad for her. I really enjoyed this story and the ending left me shocked.
I recommend this book and I'm looking forward to reading more by this author.

We meet Julisa as a child and the book follows her until adulthood. Even though life for Julisa may not have been the easiest and was full of dysfunction and many moments that would make the strongest person crack. Loosing two very important role models in her life and not really having a mother daughter relationship with her mother, Julisa is forced to raise herself and her focus is on school so she can help herself get out of her situation. Going off to college is new territory for Julisa but she decides to embrass it as best as she can. Loosing her virginity her sophmore year becomes a nightmare for her. Pushing herself into work and trying to get a social life she pushes her love life to the back burner thinking she will never find love and no man will accept her for who she is. Eventually she does find love in a man who is genuine to her but is mother is a true monster in law and cant stand Julisa. Will Julisa have to learn to take the abuse given to her at the hands of this woman or will she finally take a stand for herself?
I enjoyed this short debut story by Aaliyah Shalawn. I was able to read it in a few hours, and i give it 4.5 stars. LIFE dealt with Life issues, issues that many women deal with such as self esteem issues, family issues, money issues, finding love just so many things and I think the author did a good job showing that so it made the connection to the character easier. There were a few edition issues it was maybe 2 or 3 small things nothing that really took from the story at all. Julisa was a character that we got to see develop through the story because we go to see her life and the things that she went through. The story had a message behind it a few messages actually such as practice safe sex, get help when you feel you need to and many more. Life is what you make it regardless of what happens to lead up to it. The ending shocked me and was kind of sad i felt bad for Julisa just from the things that happened to her for it to end that way was sad. If your looking for a story full of drama, secrets, lies then I would recommend this to others because I enjoyed it.
