I have a background in real estate and have personally gone through a short sale on my own home and a foreclosure on a rental property. Going through my own housing crisis was definitely the most difficult thing I have done in my life. I lost a lot more than my properties...I was depressed, financially and emotionally exhausted, and not sure how I was going to move on and recover from the mess I had created for myself. This book has answers and tips for everything you need to know regarding the foreclosure or short sale process, as well as how to cope with the emotional stress and social embarrassment. The book is written for the PERSON going through a housing crisis, not just an explanation of the PROCESS. Thanks to Life After Foreclosure, I now have a clear path for myself and I know I will be able to own a home again soon. Also, you don't have to have a real estate background to understand what is discussed. It's very well written and easy to understand - no dictionary necessary. I highly recommend this book for anyone in a housing crisis. I will be buying several copies for friends, and I know they will thank me!
I lost my job three months ago and have been in the process on trying to decide whether or not to let my house. The struggle with this decision has been heart wrenching because I have a perfect credit score and I was raised to pay my bills, on time, and be financially responsible. I am done being irritated with the potential realities of my situation however and just needed to make a decision. Now that I read this book I feel ready to move forward. What I appreciate the most about your book is that it is non-biased and I didn't feel there was any hidden agenda to push my decision one way or another. It was a lot of facts written out in very concise and realistic terms, which made it a very easy read. Before I start I will heed the advice in the chapters surrounding the issues of credit so I have a handle on the situation before it starts to go south. Inevitably my credit score will take a beating, but now I feel confident that it will not be a "forever" situation. I plan to be in the 50% of people you talk about that end up in a better situation than they were before. Chapter 11 talks about how your attitude in everything and I think that is so true. Accepting the fact that change is necessary in this situation and embracing it will result in positive changes in the end. I can't say I am looking forward to the long road ahead, but I feel better prepared.
This book provided me exactly what I needed. Clarification of what my options are and what I can expect to happen once I choose that option. I am so glad that someone has finally come out and been honest with the public about how useless most loan modifications are in correcting people's housing situations.
This book has truly been an inspiration to me. I haven't seen a book like it and it is a great read. I highly recommend this book to anyone that has any experience with foreclosure.
