Overview

They say these are the best years of your life. That you can never get them back. Well with tempting teaching fellows, b****-tastic roommates and secret societies, you might just want to survive. Enter Caspian University where school work is the least of your worries and you better hope you’re not the collateral damage in someone else's drama.

In their first semester at CU, follow Beth and Judith, the made-in-hell roomie combo, as they navigate boys, school, v-cards and crazy – sometimes evil – friends. One semester: oh-so-much fun. And the best part is: it’s only just begun.

Cheers! And GL!

Pipe Dream Newspaper - Kathleen Rubino
"King’s greatest asset throughout the entire novel is her masterful use of description. It helps the reader picture exactly what is going on, whether it’s an outfit the girls are picking out or a cute boy they’re checking out...She also delves into the biggest college challenge of all, dealing with your roommate.
[The book] appeals to a wide audience as it is a quick read with some powerful insight into the lives of college students." - Pipe Dream Newspaper
Nightly Reading Reviews - Heather Youse
"These characters were very interesting. I loved the fact that these two head strung young ladies had to learn to deal with each other and got stuck living together. My favorite was Elizabeth because she seemed so much more down to earth than Duchess. I can honestly say that I was rooting for her all along. Duchess needs to meet someone who gives her a taste of her own medicine.

This was a fun quick read and I am looking forward to the next book..." - Nightly Reading Reviews

Meet the Author

Etta King is the author of the Caspian University novels, a series chronicling the life and times of a group of wealthy teens who inevitably discover the various flavors of college drama. Etta writes from her personal experiences as a college co-ed and as the product of an all-girls prep school. Here she witnessed the very eccentricities and foibles which she depicts in her novels.

In a home filled with books, it was no surprise that Etta grew to be an avid reader, and that translated into writing when she was thirteen. She wrote simply for the fun of it, whatever would come to mind, from fantasy to thriller to romance, and shared her stories with her friends.

In 2010, at twenty-one and just as she was about to graduate from college, Etta began writing "The Life and Times of Elizabeth and the Duchess." This was a story which had first taken shape in 2008, after her freshman year, but had been put on hold. With graduation looming, Etta recalled the characters, and the events which had inspired them, and took pen to paper. Literally, as Etta enjoys writing out her stories before typing them out. Soon the first book had been completed and the series was born.

"The Life and Times of the Heir and the Keeper," comes as the sequel to "Elizabeth and the Duchess," and serves as the second semester of these teens' college saga. Etta is currently working on the third book, in what will be an eight-part series.

Etta King lives with her family in Westchester, New York.

I got this as a book suggestion from a friend who loves teen/chick/school fics... I expected the same run of the mill story we always get: mean girl, sad unpopular girl, triumph of the nerds lol... Well this was different; the two combatants were equally matched (for the most part haha) and they didn't have cliche drama to deal with... Also, seriously, this IS college...you rarely see it written which this kind of honesty. Like another reviewer said, I can expect to see this turned into something for the screen. Can't wait for the rest!

The Author grabs your attention from the very first page making it extremely hard to put the book down. The characters are refreshing and realistic. This book put me back into my first year in college and all the thrills that came with it. This is the kind of book that gets turned into a series/movie. Watch out! This is the start of something Big.

The best thing about the characters is how *alive* they are. They're wacky, sarcastic, funny and real! It's like I've lived with these people, sometimes in the book. But it was also sort of like watching a brand new episode of a show you just love to pieces. I felt like I got them even when I wanted to strangle Judith or smack Jonathan! Or just yell at Elizabeth to stop being so impulsive hahaha. But the book was cute and fast paced; I want to read the next one soon!

This is by far THE best 'college' book you will ever read!! From the first page I knew I wasn't going to be able to put it down. The quick-read, page-turner Caspian University Novel, 'The Life and Times of Elizabeth and the Duchess' by Etta King, related so much to my freshmen experiences that I found myself smiling while I read it. The author made me realize that the stupid dramas that happened while I was in college happens in college campuses all across the world and that amused me and simultaneously frustrated me for thinking it was the end of the world while it was happening! For the readers who are about to embark in the adventure that is the college life, King is therein introducing the excitements of freshmen year. For the young readers who are still in college, this book will be amusing and strangely relatable. It will awe and surprise and most definitely not disappoint. For the older adults whose college experiences were but a few years ago, King will make you want to experience it all over again. And for the almost grandparents or grandparents, it will perhaps shock and validate how the times have changed and give a sneak peek of the college life of current times. I must applaud Etta King for the amazing descriptions of the situations, from how the characters were dressed to how they looked and touched each other. The story is playful and fun, sad at times, and super hot and sexy!! A must read!! For now, I patiently wait for the Second Semester at Caspian U!! >.<
