Life Cycle: The Preternaturals, Book 4

… Immortality can be a bitch

Cain: the first murderer... now the first incubus. And the most lethal. He’s killed too many women to count, luring them to his bed, feeding his dark urges, then taking their lives for their foolishness. He especially likes killing witches, one of the few beings dangerous to his kind. So killing Tam shouldn’t be a problem. He’s wanted to taste her for ages.

But there’s one thing he doesn’t know about her.

Tamara has lived nearly two thousand years, trapped by a spell of her own creation. An enemy and former lover is stalking her, intent on torturing and killing her to steal her magic. There is only one demon strong enough to release her from the curse and let her die for good... out of Jack’s reach. But will Cain honor her death wish, or keep her as his concubine forever? Eternity with Cain as her demon lover? He could be her darkest torment or everything she’s ever needed.

Zoe Winters’ Paranormal Romance and Urban Fantasy Series: The Preternaturals

Enter a world of dark desire and dark magic where today’s hero is tomorrow’s villain... or vice versa. Unleashed passions between unlikely lovers rage against the backdrop of a world of conflict and infighting among the secret factions of the preternatural underworld.

Are you the villain if you’ve got good reasons? Are you the hero just because we’re rooting for you? Tormented alphas, charismatic and ruthless leaders, and the women torn and trapped between them, forced into situations they never should have had to face.

Amidst a world of ignorant humans, the demons (true immortals), vampires, and therians (shapeshifters) fight to keep their territories. The only humans aware of this world are the magic users: witches, wizards, and sorcerers who enjoy the ability to mix with the humans or the monsters depending on what suits their current purposes.

If the preternatural world is discovered and war breaks out, the humans have a chance... IF the magic users choose to cast their fate with their own kind. Magic combined with technology would even the playing field more than the monsters are comfortable with.

Dark lovers you’ll meet in this series:

Luc: Another incubus. Taking this demon lover to bed is a touch safer. He’s grown a conscience from being trapped for fifty years via a curse that not only keeps him under house arrest but has reawakened his humanity. He’s learned the most dangerous thing in his immortal existence is an angry witch scorned. Still, a demon’s gotta eat, and there is only one woman that satisfies both the demon and man in him.

Anthony: The vampire king. Cold, ruthless, undead, and hard to like. Yet, all it takes is one human with amnesia, to soften his heart. More than anything, he wants to return to a time when Charlotte saw him for the man he is, instead of the monster she’s discovered. Ever since being bitten, she hasn’t been the same. It soon becomes clear that the only way to protect a fragile human is if she’s claimed. Meanwhile, his deepest wish is to have his lover awakened from the memory loss that took everything... not just the memories he meant to erase.

Hadrian: Once a priest, now a vampire. Destiny has dealt him an odd hand, or Angeline, his sire, has. Her need for his love couldn’t trump his need for freedom. And now he believes he’s put her far in his past. But when he sees her tormented more than any vampire deserves, he’ll take her under his wing to protect her once again.

Editorial Reviews

Proserpine Craving Books - Proserpine Lily
Life Cycle was a fantastic story, a paranormal story that totally fit my exigencies: actions from page one until the very end, supernatural creatures in all kind to satisfy any paranormal romance lovers, a sexy and torn demon (incubi) king willing to do almost everything to satisfy his lust toward the main female character and a most of a bad-ass chick willing to do everything to have what she wants and needs.

Cain and Tam have that I hate you but I want to rip your clothes off kinda relationship. They fight and press each others button but they still want to get one another naked. When Tam's past comes knocking on her door, Cain comes in to protect her. And this is where the fun begins.

Life Cycle is so far my favorite in the series. Cain and Tam sure know how to heat up the pages. Her wanting death by orgasm's and him wanting her to beg him to keep her just to mess with her mind, turns out

Life Cycles is better that I expected.

Pert of the draw I feel toward supernatural stories is the story of immortality. It is captivating to imagine a life where you never have to worry aboutbeing able to afford retirement, sickness, or the pain of a body struggling to maintain functionality.

Life cycle gives another perspective on immortality. How it would feel to watch everyone around you suffer and die. What would it feel like to repeatedly find love just to loose it?

Like the main character of Life Cycles, I imagine one would feel trapped and alone.

Life cycles is a story of demons, witches, vampires, and other supernatural beings.

    Great read.

    more from this reviewer

    I love this world

    I love witches.

    I love demons. Especially incubi.

When demons and witches collide, well my friends, that is all things good in this world. This book, Life Cycle, focuses on Cain and Tam. Cain has been around Zoe Winter’s books for a bit, having shown up in Blood Lust, Save My Soul, and The Catalyst. We have previously met Tam in The Catalyst. As soon as I got to see a little bit of Cain in The Catalyst I knew I had to have more. And more is definitely what you get in Life Cycle.

Cain and Tam have a rocky relationship at best. They are both old enough to realize that the other can be helpful when it comes to battles and things like that. But the problem is that they just don’t get along. They are like oil and vinegar. They just don’t mix. Well, until they do. Then they are absolutely delicious.

I found Life Cycle to be such a fantastic read, I couldn’t put it down. Tam is being hunted, Tam is being protected, Tam is being… well, she’s being fed from by Cain. And that is certainly hot. Cain is the very first incubus, and he is eight thousand years old. On top of all of that he is a man. All of that leads up to one very stubborn and set in his ways individual. Tam is quite old herself, we learn a few of her secrets here, and she is exactly the type of woman who can put the smack down on Cain and make him see that maybe, just maybe, the way he has been living for eight thousand years isn’t necessarily the only way.

I really love love love the way Cain steps up in this book. He takes care of Tam, more than anyone else even realizes. His demon realm is the perfect place for her to hide out. I love every single scene that takes place there. It seems like such a magical and dark place. Zoe Winters has done a fabulous job building this whole Preternaturals world, but the demon realm is absolutely my favorite part of all of it.

Tam is so very powerful, I just got a kick out of it every time her powers came into use. That witch has some interesting tricks up her sleeve! Tam really shined in this book. She is fiery and intelligent, strong and brutal. Yep, brutal. And that is why she is so perfect for Cain, because he is all of those things himself. And these two need the other to snap them back into line. And when they do, the windows definitely steam up! I really adored the slow way they fell for each other. There were times I wasn’t sure it was going to happen. These two stubborn fools deserve each other in the best way possible.

Also it was nice to say hello to some other characters I got to know a bit in The Catalyst. This whole world that Zoe has built is so thorough, I feel like I could step through the pages and be right there and know exactly where I am. This story was definitely not lacking on any action or mystery. Everything played out perfectly, and there were more than enough surprises to keep me entertained and wanting more at the same time.

If you haven’t read any of Zoe’s books yet, I’m not entirely sure what you are waiting for. I’ve reviewed a couple of her books, both as Zoe and as Kitty, and I can tell you that she is a fantastic storyteller. It never takes me long to get lost in her story, and ignore the outside world. Just like her other books, this one moves fast and grabs you by the ass to make sure you are along for the ride. I loved it.
