    Life: America's Parade

I just receieved my copy of Life Celebrates America's Parade. I must say it is a big let down. Sure it looks slick and glossy but to bring to mind a famous ad line from a 1980's commercial 'Where's the Beef?' This book is totally lacking in the history dept. Might as well just cut out some of the pretty pictures and throw the rest away. And Macy's co-operated on this? Clearly just a quickie to cash in on the Macy Parade's Anniversary.

    Life: America's Parade

With this year being the 75th Anniversary of the World famous Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade you would think this book would be a natural. Sadly it is a book of little value historically. After you look at it a second time you see how seriously lacking of any merit it really is. All it is really is photos most of which are not choice save a few. Sadly this book does not fly as high as the glorious Macy's balloons that we all know and love. Sadly Jean McFaddin the legendary leader of the Macy's Parade gets very little credit for her 24 years - she was the one that made the Parade the great event known the world over. Macy's this book surely is not the Miracle on 34th Street but really the example of crass commercialism that Macy's Kris Kringle was against in the classic 1947 film MIRACLE ON 34th STREET.

NOT THE THANKSGIVING FEAST - JUST AN APPETIZER

Being a life-long fan of the MACY'S PARADE I immediately bought this book upon seeing a mailing on it. It was a serious let-down, nothing more than a magazine stuck between hardcover. Even at Barnes and Noble great price this title is OVERPRICED. Sadly it is like a Chinese food dinner after an hour you want something more satisfying. We have been had!

    A Pictorial Thanksgiving Feast!

Since it's inception in 1924, there has never been such a marvelous literary tribute to 'America's Parade' as this. Through the talent of the editors of LIFE and the archives of Macy*s, the reader is treated to a visual parade of images that chronical the magic of the parade the whole world loves. The book features dozens of photographs, many which have never been published before and support text, which tell the story of how the tradition began and how through the years it grew in scope and style to become the glorious parade that officially signals the start of the holiday season. Highlights include wonderful photographs of the very first Macys Christmas Parade, and tells the story of how the giant figure balloons became the signature of this classic holiday event. In particular, the book pays tribute to those behind the magic. The Macys Special Events team. As a lifelong fan and historian of the Macy*s Thanksgiving Day Parade (over 35 years!) I highly recommend this book. It is historical, factual and fun. If you grew up with the parade as I did this book is a must have and a great introduction to the Macys Parade for readers of all ages. It presents the shining spirit of New York City at it's finest. It is a tribute to 'America's Parade', a parade know and loved all over the world. Make this book a part of your collection!
