Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Two camels wander alone on a vast sea of sand. This is the traditional picture of a desert and the one that is on the cover of this book, one of the "Living in a Biome" series. The book is an overview of the desert biome including climate, plants and animals. Designed for early readers, it is divided into short chapters and each spread has a short, easy to read passage accompanied by a large color photograph. In fact, the photographs are the best part of this book. They are beautiful pictures that are full of action and will grab kids attention. The book has a few other interesting features including a table of contents, index and glossary. It also has its own website. Just type in the code in the back of the book and the site will pull up web pages relating to desert biomes. This book is a fully interactive book and one that will encourage young readers, as well as help teachers trying to interest young readers in science. 2004, Capstone Press, Ages 5 to 7.
