Children's LiteraturePonds seem like such ordinary places. They are found in parks, gardens and backyards. The only people who find ponds interesting are young children. That is exactly who this book is written for. Part of the "Living in a Biome" series, the book examines the climate, plants and animals that are related to ponds and discusses them in easy to read language. The text is large and the sentences short, perfect for early readers. The highlight of the book, however, is the pictures. Two thirds of each spread is covered by a large, color photograph relating to the text on the page. It has all the requirements of a reference book: table of contents, index and glossary. It also has one added feature; it has its own web page. This is a beautiful book that any child would be eager to read. Elementary teachers could use it to bridge science and reading and parents could use it as a backyard lesson. It is a great book in a great series. 2004, Capstone Press, Ages 5 to 7.
