Life in a Rain Forestby Carol K. Lindeen, Sandra Mather, Gail Saunders-Smith
Life in a Rain Forest explores the wide range of plant and animal life that thrives in this hot, wet biome.
Children's LiteratureSnakes slither through the tall grass. Tree frogs hop from branch to leaf. Apes swing from tree to tree. All this happens while a rainstorm is brewing overhead. This is what a rain forest is like. This book, one of the "Living in a Biome" series, takes readers into the depths of a rainforest to discover what life exists there. The book is broken up into short chapters and each spread covers a different topic. The text is easy to read and, in a reversal of the typical structure, serves to highlight the pictures, which are stunning. The book has a table of contents, glossary, index and its own web page called facthound.com. This book would enliven a class studying biomes, and would spark the interest of a child reading on his or her own. It is an excellent resource. 2004, Capstone Press, Ages 5 to 7.
