In these 20 heartfelt essays, Rachael Herron celebrated romance novelist by day, 911 dispatcher by night, and founder of the hugely popular blog Yarnagogo.com shows how when life unravels there s always a way to knit it back together again, many times into something even better. Honest, funny, and full of warmth, Herron s tales, each inspired by something she knit or something knit for her, will speak to anyone who has ever picked up a pair of needles. From her very first sweater (a hilarious disaster, to say the least) to the yellow afghan that caused a breakup (and, ultimately, a breakthrough), every piece has a moving story behind it. This beautifully crafted and candid collection is perfect for the knitter who loves to read and the reader who loves to knit.

Key admission: I'm a knitter, so I *get* from where the author writes. But even if you don't knit, this is a poignant memoir. Ms. Herron has made the sorts of mistakes we all make in coming into ourselves, and has learned from them, especially that mistakes are often not the sorts of things cast in stone. In knitting you can frog or tink (unknit), in writing you can edit, and in life, you can say you're sorry, and try to work it out. I cried for the loss of her mom, I cried over her kitty, Digit's loss and re-found. And through it all, I nodded over the community we knitter's have made for ourselves, local and worldwide thru the web. Nodded and smiled.
Read this. You'll be a better person for it. (Then make sure you pick up her novels...they're all really good and a lot of fun! She's got an easy, breezy style.)

This is a wonderful book of personal essays based on Herron's life. Very thought provoking. I bought 2 copies so I could give one away.

Just finished A Life in Stiches and couldn't put it down. What a wonnderful collection of essays, Rachael is very easy to relate to. You do not have to be a knitter to enjoy. Once again an enjoyable read from Racheal and I can't wait for her next book in October!

Very surprised how much I enjoyed these short stories with the thread of knitting as a focal point. Will read more by Rachael.

If you like books that are a fun read and include the "knitting community", this one is for you. A quick fun read that reads as a biography with a little bit about knitting included. Loved the knitting instructions at the back of the book! Will definitely read another book by this author!

This book was a treat! Although I ususally don't like essays or short stories, this book allowed me a quick break from all 3 of the "heavy duty" books I am currently slogging through. Just a quick break, a change of pace. I could identify as a knitter with most of the stories Rachael Herron has "essayed" about in this book!

For those of us who love to "play with sticks and string," these essays say it all. While my personal life experiences are quite different from those of Ms Herron, we share a common bond in our love of yarn. To quote Elizabeth Zimmerman: "Knit on, with hope and confidence, through all..."
