Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Gisela Jernigan
This nonfiction reader, with colorful pictures on every page, presents a simple overview of the plants, animals and people of the world's rainforests. While it mentions several groups of people who dwell in rainforests, it focuses in on the Yanomami of South America. There are especially good sections at the end of the book that explain why rainforests and their life are important, how they are being destroyed, what countries can do to save them, and what kids can do to help. A useful source of information for those just starting to read science books on their own. Includes index and map.
School Library Journal - School Library Journal
Gr 1-3-Although simple in outlook and format, this is not a simplistic book. Covering all of the basic aspects of rainforest ecology, the people who live there, and the problems inherent in the destruction of these areas, the authors present a clear picture of the importance of maintaining them. The illustrations, however, are primitive and garishly colored. With so many beautiful titles available on this topic, many of which include photographs of rainforest animals and plants, this one is a marginal purchase.-Eva Elisabeth Von Ancken, Trinity Pawling School, NY
