    I could listen more

As a lay person in the pew, I sometimes wonder what the homilist said or where is he wandering. Those 5-7 minutes, or at worst, that 15-20 minute homily, can be painfully long either because the delivery is bad or the message hits too close to home. In the Lukean account of the Transfiguration, we hear the Voice of God the Father cry 'This is my chosen Son listen to him? (LK 9:35). Fr. Zajac's homilies helped me to 'listen' to the WORD more attentively his practical expressions modeled ways to 'live' that WORD....especially helping me to examine my life from what I 'have done' and as importantly, 'what I have not done.' Fr. Richard's homilies forced me to 'connect' our faith to my every day life, in a world that often wants us to be 'disconnected.' His stories, jokes, literary footnotes and connections to popular culture, helped me see how the WORD is truly incarnated in simple experiences. Let me stay longer and hear more.....
