Life Is Your Masterpiece
Lucca Macilla conditioned himself to take abuse. But when he transforms himself from a dim, unglamorous loner into famous icons like Marilyn Monroe, Louise Brooks, or Bridgette Bardot, he was convinced imitating actresses' daring lives would bring him the love of his dreams.

Hot and grimy while painting fields under Cezanne skies, all Lucca could hope for was earning a painting scholarship as a way out of Naples, a lonesome town akin to those found in rummage sale paintings. Then he met Madelyn, the farmer's beautiful daughter on the field he paints, but her parents' racist views stood in the way of their love.

Lucca wanted so much to stop being afraid of the world, but Madelyn had a contrast of gifts. When she flies away to fashion school in New York, Lucca leaves by rail for art school in Chicago and soon innocence fades from a longing for acceptance to debauchery. Life itself is a performance art. He wondered if freedom and happiness was capable within life's rules as he transcended from one icon into many, and how long could he live a life of lies?

This Psycho-Rom with its unreliable narrator, symbolism, and impulsiveness is analogous to Mayberry R.F.D. directed by Federico Fellini.

About the Author

Dave Marz specialized in the art of daydreaming in his youth. As a student in Goleta Union, California during the late nineteen sixties his class would often sing to the Beatles, ‘White’ album. His favorite teachers taught him to embrace creativity. This has matured after graduating with an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and lead to a career teaching visual design throughout the United States.

As a Mexican-American, he’s lectured nationally and traveled to a communist Cuba because Americans were told not to do so. He continues exhibiting his photography internationally while dreaming of writing and sailing the sea.
