    Life Love And Laugther

This book thoroughly explains the steps of the conscienceness examen. Father Jim Vauln uses his life expriences to help you see how the examen is too be used. Father Jim also tells on how he came across this process. He explains that as a young man studying for the preisthood he almost felt it beacause of a feelings of not being loved by God.At a retreat he met a monk that told him to follow these steps. He goes through the steps one by one using stories. One of his stories is about his Aunt and how she used to stir the sauce she made with her wooden spoon. Then when she passed away the only thing he asked to keep of hers was her wooden spoon. This was to remember her and how loving she was. That she showed her love through her cooking. This book is for everyone and I highly recommend it.

    Brendan- Life, Love and Laughter

Father Jim Vlaun¿s book helps us and teaches us how to see God and how to become closer to God. In the book Father Jim teaches us a five step daily system to follow in order to become closer to God. This system is called the Consciousness Examen. He found out about the system while on a retreat; he was given an index card with the five steps written on it. The five steps are: a prayer for enlightenment; reflective thanksgiving; survey of actions; contrition and sorrow; and resolution for tomorrow. This system was first developed many centuries ago by Saint Ignatius of Loyola, but Father Jim makes it alive for the reader by teaching the system through his own life experiences. Father Jim writes in a way that can relate to all readers. The book is easy to read and its lessons are easy to understand. The book teaches you to make a connection with God everyday, be thankful to others, reflect and see if you have been helpful and wise, visit the regrets of your life, and make a solution for the future. If you try to take these steps and do them everyday, your life will have more ¿life, love and laughter.¿

    Life Love and Laughter

The book, Life Love and Laughter was about the beauty of connecting with God. In the story, Fr. Jim explains to the reader that there are many different ways you can figure out how to connect with God and yourself. The Consciousness Examen is five very important steps that may help you get in touch with yourself. The Consciousness Examen helped Fr. Jim and he was hoping it would help his readers too. The five major steps of the Consciousness Examen are: Prayer for Enlightenment, Reflective Thanksgiving, Survey of Actions, Contrition and Sorrow, and Resolution for the Future. Each step has a special meaning behind it. Each step may help you change your life forever. Prayer for Enlightenment is the first step, which helps you realize that life should have a deeper meaning. It explains that if you pray and look beyond the obvious of everything, you will see everything as it truly is and that¿s what is important. Reflective Thanksgiving is the second step, and it helps you focus on always being thankful for what you have. There are many people who are gifted and know what to do with their lives. People like that challenge others so they can change their whole outlook on life. Survey of Actions is the third step, and it shows that we all become the people we are a little bit at a time. Everyone affects us in some way. Our community, family, and friends are the people who mold us into the people we are today. Contrition and Sorrow is the fourth step, which makes us people who love others and ourselves. Resolution for Future is the final step of the Consciousness Examen. All the steps help us become the people we want to be. When we pray to God, we become more connected and feel more in touch with ourselves and God. We all become closer if we do this, we will feel God¿s presence in our lives and in our hearts.

Life, Love and Laughter Reveiw by Patricia Gisonda

Life, Love and Laughter by Fr. Jim Vlaun was undeniably unlike any other book I have every read. I think by having Fr. Jim recount some of his own life experiences to help up understand things in the Consciousness Examen was a good idea and make the book more enjoyable to readers. Also by having him bring up occasions in his life to relate to show that everyday things can relate to the examen. The Five steps of the examen: A prayer for enlightenment, Reflective thanksgiving, survey of actions, contradiction and sorrow and resolution for the future were equally explained throughout the book. Each step leads up to the next. The first step talks about knowing god is present in our everyday lives, Enlightenment is having the knowledge and spiritual insight to find god. The seconds step talks about being great full for what we have and who we are. Everything in life is a gift and we use our gifts to follow through to god. The third step survey of actions talks about our actions and seeing if what we do is wrong or right. We have to act the way that god intends us to act. The fourth step says how everyone has regrets and that we should be sorry for them. We should look for forgiveness. Our conscience will tell us the right thing to do. What makes person who they are is what they do with their failures not their successes. The fifth and final step of the examen states that we have to prepare for the future. It helps us to live with god in our lives and to improve ourselves for the future.

    Life, Love, and Laughter

The book Life, Love, and Laughter was an excellent book describing the five steps to the Consciousness Examen II The First Step: A prayer for Enlightenment A. The first step in the Consciousness Examen is a prayer for enlightenment. We are to spend a moment asking God for a special moment. 1. Enlightenment is hard to grasp, it just happens. When it happens, we are never the same again. It becomes the way to holiness and deeper union with God and affords us the opportunity to mature spiritually. We need it in order to live in faith. To be enlightened or in the process of being enlightened involves to desire to get into the 'wrestling ring' with God. It is not one that has all the answers; it is to be able to make an informed decision about God in our lives. 2. A prayer for enlightenment is to make God connections so that we may continue to 'wrestle' with God in our lives. To experience enlightenment is to experience love. True enlightenment is when we come to recognize something new about our God, another, or ourselves. 3. Enlightenment never ends. It keeps going and going. Healing, love, and passion are eh things that we are made of and these moments are the moments the lead to enlightenment. Jesus calls us to enlighten through healing, raising the dead, and sharing a meal. It is necessary to begin the Examen here. III The second Step: Reflective Thanksgiving A. The Second step of the Consciousness Examen is a moment of reflective thanksgiving. It involves some moments thanking God for His wonders in our lives and the many gifts we have received though His grace and love. 1. Eating is an important part of thankfulness. That's why we gather in Sunday to become what we receive. It puts us in a spirit of gratitude. The more thankful we are, the closer we are to becoming the Body of Christ. Our goal is to give all of ourselves in love to each other as Jesus did. 2. We are called to a life stance of thanksgiving. Recognizing that when push comes to shove, everything is a gift. A big part of thanksgiving involves using our gifts to help others. Using our gifts well is a way of giving thanks. B. Two types of thanksgiving are thanksgiving for the cross and thanksgiving for the resurrection. 1. Thanksgiving for the Cross- All the pain, struggle, and tragedy in our lives can be a source of God's presence to us. At times of the cross God leads us to God. He draws us to tragedy. 2. Thanksgiving for the Resurrection- no moment of reflective thanksgiving can really be complete without a moment of gratitude for the effect of the Resurrection in our lives. This event has changed our history forever. WE share life, love, and laughter; we suffer and live in confusion; we die but we live. The Resurrection is the gift of peace to a people plagued with stress and anxiety. IV The Third Step: Survey of Actions A. The third step in the Consciousness Examen is a survey or actions. Each moment of life is a moment with the potential for the power of God to break in. In some ways, this is the easiest step, but it takes a lifetime to manage. It's easy to think of God's presence in the special moments of our day. It's also easy to think of God in the special moments of life. B. As people who survey our actions or reflect on our daily lives we first must seek how we have been the person of Christ to others. The image of Jesus as healer, reconciler, and lover are good images to reflect upon in order to see Jesus' presence through our lives each day. 1. Jesus the Healer : we have a great capacity to act I the name of Jesus as Healers. In a sense it is this capacity that we have the potential to make other feel cared for that is quite powerful. Jesus told the disciples that they could heal, forgive sins, and make people whole by how they posses the Spirit that Jesus gave them. We are able to accomplish great thing. The Spirit provided to us through reconciliation. 2. Jesus as Reconciler:
