The constant physical challenge that LaVerne has endured for over five decades from a body diagnosed with cerebral palsy, in no way compares to the emotional pain she has endured for many years, often from those who once professed to care deeply for her. It is in these circumstances that she has found herself, not only trapped in body--but also in mind and spirit.

In writing Life Poems: An Empowering Up & Down Look at My Life Through Verse, she finds refuge as she expressed herself by pouring out her sorrows as well as her triumphs. Somewhere deep inside her she realized the necessity of this process. Like the necessity of lancing a wound to drain the infection away, LaVerne instinctively knew that the words that filled this book had to pour forth to stop her experiences from changing her inner soul forever.

Life can be like a roller coaster ride as its many ups & downs, and twists & turns, constantly present us with daily challenges. And she can assure yu that if you just "hang on tight" to your beliefs, you can discover a determination that will see you through like that "light" at the end of the tunnel allowing you to eventually coast into your final station.

In these pages you will find poems that will touch your spirit. Some of them may even stir your remembrance of past hurts that have been overcome, or they may help to heal pain that you may still be experiencing. Whatever the case, hopefully, LaVerne’s words will empower you to have the courage to dredge up that which you may not even know is emotionally weighing you down, so you can discard past pain to make room for a future you truly deserve.

About the Author

LaVerne Watts Avant is a brave, intelligent, and outgoing mother of a teenage son. She has been married for almost 30 years and has faced and overcome all the nuances that go along with that (both good and bad). In addition, she was diagnosed with cerebral palsy shortly after her birth but hasn't let what other people would call a disability stop her in the least.

She is a personal advocate for the "underdog" and has championed many causes in the name of fairness and fair play. She is a great believer in empowering all those that are oppressed--especially women and children. She is viewed by many of her peers as a determined role model, since she does not allow the fact that she depends on a motorized scooter to stop her from accomplishing her goals.

A strong woman of faith who donates so much of her time to good causes that she has to be often reminded to take some time for herself. She has spent the last couple of years running her website http://LaVerneAroundTown.com which is a Hampton Roads, Virginia, based site dedicated to sharing fun family information to assist people on tight budgets discover ways they can save on their family's entertainment cost by pointing out inexpensive and free alternatives to fancy trips and expensive theme parks.

When not doing all the above, she enjoys scooting "around town" to the many flea markets, craft fairs and shows, where she enjoys picking up a bargain or two. She then shares her new money saving discoveries through her posts on her relatively new local craft show site - http://CraftShowsInHamptonRoads.com.

And on rare moments, she even finds time to eat and sleep, but those are VERY rare moments.
