The majority of the members of our Jail Ministry Bible STudy Class was using another Bible until one of our inmates was given a Life Recovery Bible. Now all of our members have requested a copy. Most of our students have been involved in some form of addition and they tell us this Bible is arranged to speak directly to their needs. We will continue to use this Bible as an aid in our class.

A friend of mine recommended this Bible to me and I took the suggestion and ordered it several weeks ago. As a Christian in a 12 step recovery process I have found that this edition of the Word of God is giving me a deeper understanding of the spiritual principals underlying the process. I have been in recovery for a number of years and am finding that this is a valuable tool for the continued spiritual growth that is required for continued sobriety. My wife, who is NOT in recovery, has been doing the 12 Step daily devotional with me and feels that she is also benefiting from the devotional readings as well as the footnotes and side references. I highly recommend this to anyone in recovery or anyone who is looking to grow spiritually.

I recently chose the NLT Bible to review and thought to share here my thoughts. Featuring the Serenity prayer as its introduction, one of my all time favourites, it includes a twelve step devotionals, in fact a reading chain of 84 Bible-based devotionals tied to the Twelve steps of Recovery and many life changing features such as Recovery profiles, notes, reflections and themes. I especially liked the Serenity Prayer devotionals placed next to the verses they originated from, to be sure a meaningful 29-day reading program. Additional features includes book outlines, great topical and devotional indexes as well as an excellent user guide for any troubled families or individuals on the road to recovery. In our challenging times, you will find yourself reaching out for this Bible time and time again and I gladly give it a 5 star rating. To comply with new regulations introduced by the Federal Trade Commission, please note as part of every Web or Amazon review that Tyndale House Publishers has provided me with a complimentary copy of this book.

The Life Recovery Bible published by Tyndale is today's top selling recovery Bible, and for good reason. This Bible is full of resources for individuals in a twelve step recovery program. It includes notes, devotions, and correlations between Bible characters and the recovery process. One of the key contributors to this Bible is Stephen Arterburn, M.D. The Life Recovery Bible also features the usual resources found in a study Bible such as outlines, book overviews, key characters and verses, and a topic and devotional index. This Bible is in the New Living Translation which is easy to read and understand. I am largely not very fond of the twelve step recovery process, but I do enjoy this Bible. I found many of the features to be helpful just in my devotional time. Although I do not use it often, I enjoy reading the Bible in the New Living Translation as it allows me a fresh perspective of God's Word. The Life Recovery Bible is a bit large and heavy in its hardcover format, making it difficult and awkward to take to church. In personal Bible study, though, it could be a tremendous resource. Although I would not recommend this Bible to everyone because of the recovery emphasis, I would suggest it as a focused study tool for those who are recovering from addictions. This Bible was provided for review by Tyndale House Publishers.

There were a lot of things going against this book review from the outset. First, I am not a big fan of the Americanization of the Bible that has taken place as a result of the NLT translation. Second, I am not a fan of bible's that take the bible's complex and multi-faceted message and make it into "one thing." With that said, The Life Recovery Bible was interesting as I looked through it. The bible includes twelve-step devotionals, serenity prayer devotionals and recovery principle devotionals. As I am not an addict or in recovering from drugs/alcohol, I cannot say with any authority that this bible will help its target audience. If I were going to recommend any Bible, it would be the New Oxford Annotated Bible, as this is the only one that I have read that tries to provide the reader with a diversity of information and scholarship. This book may be good though if you are looking for a way to read the bible devotionally and are a recovering addict.
