Children's Literature - Cathi I. White
Marriage in itself has its ups and downs. Newly married couples have to learn to adjust to each other's ways versus how they were used to living individually. Add to that adjustment is showing love to each other, romance, sex, and other concerns that every marriage has. Marriage is a big change for any normal couple, but what about the couple where one partner has asperger syndrome (AS)? How can the person who does not have AS learn to cope to the ways of the partner who does? Managing a marriage with a partner who has AS is difficult. The person who does not have AS has to deal with issues like having an AS partner who does not show love or say that they love them. In addition, the AS partner may not help with the children or care about what goes on around the house because they are focused on their own interests. Subtitled, "Practical Steps to Saving You and Your Relationship," this informative book uses a unique approach by giving the reader some examples of stories from people who are married to a partner with AS. The reader is well informed through different scenarios about how each situation is handled. These stories will give encouragement to the reader to better manage their marriage and everyday life with a partner with AS. This book includes issues such as patience, anger, sex, dealing with a child with AS, and what to do when you feel like giving up. In addition, at the end of each chapter is a section called lessons learned that summarizes the chapter and gives some tips. People who are married to a partner with AS will highly benefit from this excellent resource. Reviewer: Cathi I. White
