USA TODAY BESTSELLER • Sex on the beach has never been so much fun! Jamie K. Schmidt kicks off a series set in paradise with an irresistible tale of second chances, secret identities—and a connection that’s too sweet to miss.
When Amelia Parker arrives in Maui, newly single and unemployed, she’s shocked to discover the resort she booked is actually a ramshackle little beachside hotel. At least the scenery is easy on the eyes—as is the toned, laid-back snorkel instructor, “Dude.” After two weeks of sun, serenity, and mind-blowing sex, she even accepts a job as the hotel’s concierge. But what Amelia really wants is to relaunch the place completely. And that means convincing the absentee Wall Street billionaire owner, Samuel Kincaide, to take a chance on her.
Samuel has a plan, too: selling off every last reminder of his former life and chilling all day, every day as his slacker altar ego . . . Dude. He loves his romps in the ocean, and under the sheets, with the feisty Amelia. If she discovers his true identity, her boundless enthusiasm and innovative business plan will seriously diminish his hammock time. But when Amelia runs into real trouble on the island, he’ll put everything on the line to keep her safe. He just hopes that the woman who’s falling for Dude will feel the same about Samuel.

While Life’s a Beach is an entertaining and quick (also HOT) read, there were portions that are a little farfetched. The trouble that comes up is that Samuel plans to sell the hotel but Amelia wants to do a makeover to turn it around. Unfortunately the man that Samuel is trying to sell to is playing hardball to get the price down. While they wait for a better price Samuel agrees to let her do some things to spruce the place up, but mysterious, bad things start happening … and how they handle it just doesn’t ring real for me. Having said that, the rest of the book makes up for it – the sex is very steamy, the characters are interesting, and the rest of the plot is highly entertaining. There were times where I laughed out loud and times that I got a little hot under the collar :), which I consider a definite win! Amelia is a ton of fun – she’s sassy, funny, strong and determined. Samuel is sexy and when he forgets about being overly “Dude-y” he’s fun to be around. He’s got some issues that he needs to work through - some time to try to find a way to be both Dude and Samuel in a way that works. I really loved his brother and the people at the resort, so I’m curious what future books in the series brings. If you are looking for a great beach read in the middle of January, this is definitely worth a try! (Complimentary copy provided in exchange for an honest review)

Amelia had the perfect way to celebrate her 2nd anniversary with her boyfriend, surprise him with a Hawaiian vacation. Unfortunately before she can celebrate, she loses her job and finds her boyfriend sleeping with the barista. Thus leaving her homeless, because she lived with him. She decides to take her eccentric aunt Zarafina with her and go to Hawaii. When she gets their, the resort turns out to be rundown. But ever the optimist, Amelia decides to make the most of her vacation and pursues a physical relationship with Dude the surfing instructor. Little does she know that "Dude" is actually Samuel, the owner of the resort. He is looking to lead a more simple lifestyle and is trying to sell the place. Amelia bonds with the staff of the hotel, and is soon working/volunteering to save the hotel from being sold. Will Amelia and Samuel's relationship be able to survive his secret? Will Amelia find a new beginning in Hawaii? Cute story. I enjoyed the plot and dialogue, but wished that the ending wouldn't have been quite so sudden. I look forward to reading the next book in the series. I was given a free copy for an honest review by

I really loved this book. I could not put it down because it was that fun! Amelia Parker had planned to take her wealthy, trust fund boyfriend of 2 years on a two week vacation to Hawaii as a surprise. Things haven't been great between them but Amelia thought the time away together would help. Amelia shows up at work and her boss tells her that she cannot go on her vacation because the other hotel concierge just quit. Amelia cannot believe her boss is serious. He basically tells her if she goes to Hawaii, she is out of a job! Amelia doesn't care...she wants Hawaii. Amelia goes back to her apartment and finds her boyfriend in bed with someone she thought was a friend! Amelia decides to go to Hawaii with her crazy Aunt Zarafina instead. Amelia calls the hotel to confirm everything and ends up talking to a guy named, Dude. Dude sounds like a laid back, fun type of guy. They get to flirting back and forth and Dude invites her for drink when she arrives in Hawaii. Dude, is actually Samuel Kincaid, one of the owners of the hotel. He is burned out from his Manhattan stock broker job and dealing with issues of his friend's health so he is "hiding" out in Hawaii. Samuel and his brother Marcus are trying to sell the hotel because they do not want to put the money into fixing it up. Once Amelia arrives, the fun begins! Amelia wants a two week fling before she has to go back to cold, wintry Manhattan and she thinks Dude is just the person. I loved these two together! They were fun and so, so sexy! WOW! I really loved how their feelings for each other quickly turned into something more than just a fling but neither of them wanted to tell the other. It made it all the more fun knowing that Dude was Samuel. Amelia did not like Samuel from the one time she talked to him on the phone. She does not like wealthy, entitled men. She is so done with them. It was great when Amelia stepped up and started doing the concierge job. She was a natural! I loved the way this story played out. All of the characters in the story were so fun and colorful. I really loved their happy ending....perfect. This was a great, fun and sexy read! Loved it!

I have never read anything by this author before. I have to say I was rather surprised by this book. I thought it was going to be another insta fall in love kind of book. However it wasn’t and for that I am grateful! Amelia is just breaking her neck in New York she works as a concierge in a hotel. Dare I say it she is probably the best concierge ever. She handles all of life’s problems that get thrown at her with grace and style. She has planned a two week vacation in Hawaii with her boyfriend. He of course doesn’t know about it and it’s a surprise. She has been paying off this vacation for 2 years I believe. When she arrives at work that day she finds out that the other concierge has quit. Her a**hole boss says she can’t go on vacation. She decides after a conversation on the phone with “dude” to go on her vacation anyways and gets fired. She comes home from work early to surprise her boyfriend with the news and oopss he’s not the greatest guy! So now she is homeless(she was living with the boyfriend) and jobless… so she decides to take her eccentric aunt and go on vacation anyways! (good for her!!) Samuel aka Dude is an interesting character. He is from Wall street he actually was really great on wall street so much he is insanely wealthy. Samuel needed a break from wall street he thinks it might actually kill him. He buys a hotel in Hawaii… insert Dude. He decides to just veg for a while… he’s going to sell the hotel. There are only a few people who work at the hotel who know who Dude is. He swears they will be set up well when he sells so they don’t loose their jobs. Insert Amelia coming to the resort of course she is having a rough time and he actually has to rescue her when they meet. She hates rich men since previous boyfriend and boss were both. So he keeps up the Dude persona.. then of course Amelia steps in on her vacation to help out and she has ideas for the hotel. Which is not what Samuel wants he wants to sell and get out. I really enjoyed these characters. I also enjoyed the other characters in the book. It’s rare to get invested into the other characters of a book unless they are crucial. I really want to see how things pan out for the other hotel staff, Ameila’s aunt and Samuel’s brother! These flowed seamlessly for me I only had a few pet peeves that I can let pass just because I really enjoyed the characters. I received a copy of this book from NetGalley for my honest review.

Loved this irresistible, wildly entertaining, romance. Filled with a lot of witty banter, humor, adventure and lots of hot, raunchy sex. Loved Amelia and Dude's characters as well as the fun quirky secondary characters that brings this story to life. Loved Amelia's positive attitude and energy as well as Dude's "No Worries" road of life with his secret identity and their sweet romance filled with Lol moments. This story was well written and researched with descriptive of the various places that just made you feel like you where there, in these breathtaking, beautiful places. Life's A Beach was a quick, sexy and entertaining read. I loved the setting. It was the perfect vacation read. I loved the banter and interaction between Amelia and Dude. They had great chemistry and I loved seeing the two of them together. My only complaint was that the ending seemed a bit rushed. Other than that, I thought this was a great vacation read. The story was entertaining and for the most part, very light on the drama. This is my first book by this author and I'm looking forward to checking out more from her in the future. Amelia had been looking forward to her Hawaiian vacation that is until she was fired and her boyfriend caught cheating. Now she has decided to take her aunt and go to Hawaii anyway. However the hotel they are staying at has little to be desired except for the sexy snorkel instructor. She is offered a job at the rundown hotel she is staying at and looks forward to making improvements, now she just needs to find the owner and convenience him to let her do it, however he is closer than she thinks. This is a fun, sexy romance. I enjoyed the story as well as the characters. The story held my interest throughout a great read on a cold winter’s night.

This was a cute, light read. The characters were well developed, but I felt that the ending was very rushed. One minute they're on a rescue mission and the next it's a year later. The Epilogue hinted to a lot things that went down during that year that could've played out in the story and still have the same ending. There was too much attention to the fluff of the book. It's a cute read, but in my opinion the storyline could have been so much more. *ARC received from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.*

Amelia is a concierge at a hotel in New York. She has been planning a vacation to Hawaii for her and her boyfriend for about a year. The day before her boss tells her she can't go because she has to work. She gets fired and goes home to find her boyfriend having sex with her coffee barista. She goes anyway and takes her tarot card reading aunt. Dude aka Samuel is owner of the hotel Amelia is staying at. But since she has sworn off rich guys, Dude doesn't tell her that he is wealthy. But he is selling the hotel as soon as the buyer offers him his price. So she thinks he a beach bum, who stays in a hammock all day and drinks beer. She talks him into having a two week affair while she's there. Amelia starts helping out and someone keeps sabotaging the hotel and their events. They have fun and lots of sex. Smoking hot sex. Hunky, rich beach bum and a spirited, very cute woman. At first the story didn't hold my attention but the more I read , the more I liked it. Also I liked that every time they had sex, Dude always put on a condom. Hope they make a book about Marcus, Dude's brother. *RECEIVED A COPY FROM NETGALLEY*

Wow, what a good book from new to me author Jamie K. Schmidt! Life's a Beach is a fun, playful read that I found difficult to put down. The two primary characters, hotel concierge Amelia Parker, and successful businessman Samuel Kincaide, better knowm as "Dude" to his beach friends, have amazing yet complicated chemistry and their unique relationship keeps the plot hopping. Amelia has spent the past year scrimping and saving for her winter vacation to Maui. She can't wait to get out of snowy New York City and spend some quality time with her boyfriend of three years. The day before her big trip, Amelia gets fired and finds her boyfriend having sex with the local barrista. As a result, she packs her life into her suitcase, picks up her homeless aunt and boards a plane to paradise. Paradise is beautiful, but her hotel is not. As a result, Amelia's expertise in the hotel industry gets her a job, and she slowly begins to make changes for the better at the Palekaiko Resort. Her new normal includes a boyfriend who is beyond hot and sexy, a ruthless competitor that resorts to kidnapping to get his way, and a family of locals that accept her and her ideas. Samuel made a ton on money on Wall Street, but got off the stress laden roller-coaster when his good friend and mentor had a massive heart attack. Now he lives a quiet life, managing a rundown but clean hotel, giving snorkeling lessons at his leisure, and relaxing on a hammock with a beer in his hand. However, once Amelia shows up, his life turns topsy-turvy. This is a sweet and extremely steamy novel. I loved the Hawaiian terminology, in addition to the beautiful landscape descriptions. Unfortunately, the ending prevented me from giving this book 5 stars. The story concluded abruptly, which left me bereft. Overall, this a fast-paced romance with great characters and an engaging plot. Complimentary copy provided by the publisher via NetGalley.

Hawaii is not only paradise but also a great place to start over. Amelia has booked a vacation and the day before she is to leave she not only loses her job but her boyfriend and home. So she takes her Aunt Zarafina to Hawaii with her. Dude is hiding out and holding down a hammock on the beach and saves Amelia from a riptide on her first day. Sparks, chemistry, and innuendos abound and what follows is a fun romp through paradise. This was a fast-paced story with interesting characters that keep you turning the pages all the way to the end. **Received a copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review**

A fun sexy romance with great characters, a beautiful setting, great pace and a story that's well paced and without much angst. I loved "Dude". This alter ego for Samuel is fun and carefree and perfect for the two week fling that should bring Amelia Parker out of the current funk her life is in. Amelia falls in love with the resort and really what does she have to return home to?? One problem, the resort is about to be sold. What would she think if she knew Dude was really the one responsible for the sale??? One I would definitely recommend.

3/3.5 Stars l Hot Steam Frothy and frisky, this light-hearted contemporary romance set in paradise was just the sort of heated escape this freezing-in-winter reader was hoping for! Happily immersed in Amelia and Samuel’s story, I could feel the sun on my skin and the sand between my toes. It all felt quite naughty, and very nice, to live vicariously through Amelia as she got her groove back one steamy encounter at a time. I appreciated her lack of wallowing—instead seeing the unfortunate events that led up to her fateful trip to Maui as one perfect opportunity to indulge in a fun and freeing sensual adventure. My true love of the novel was, of course, Samuel. His carefree alter ego “Dude” made me smile, and his expert attention to Amelia’s pleasure, well, there was nothing carefree about his wicked bedroom behavior. He delivers and delivers, and I was SO envious! Cute, entertaining and very sexy, LIFE’S A BEACH is an energizing start to a promising new series! When I picked Life's a Beach up, I was hoping for a sweet romantic novel and that is exactly what I got. The story is very fast paced, it doesn't leave you a moment to get bored or have a wandering mind ... there is something going on at all times. And that's a great thing! There's nothing to be bogged down by and simply put, it's an easy read. I found myself really connecting with the main character, Amelia. This chick says all the things that go through my mind at one point or another but unlike her, I don't have the balls to say them. When you're first introduced to this character, you think she's going to be a pain in the ass with just her persona ... she seemed like one of those girls that would drive me nuts but the more I got to know her throughout the story, the more I really liked her. She has a tenacity about her that is admirable and she's sassy to boot! Speaking of characters, I really enjoyed the rapport between Samuel and Marcus. Those two had me rolling with almost every interaction between them. I just love them. Like I said before, the story was really fast paced and it is pretty cut and dry. What you see is what you get. This is one that would be perfect for a vacation read because you won't forget what is going on when you have to put it down for a bit and you can pick right back up where you left off. Maybe we should get down to why I only gave this novel three stars. It seems like I enjoyed it, right? Well, I did. At least I did until the ending. Ugh. The ending felt like a cop out. It was over so quickly that it felt like it was left unresolved. I think that a few more pages would have done the book more justice. This was a straight up, five star book for me until I got to the last part and it was like someone poured cold water over my head while I was in the shower. It was a let down. That being said, I wouldn't be opposed to reading something else by this author. Life's a Beach kept me entertained and I enjoyed the story. I just wish I enjoyed the ending as much as I did the beginning. * I received this novel in exchange for an honest review *

Laid back story with an irresistible flair. Ms. Schmidt brought all the warmth of the summer to heat up the winter nights. I received an ARC of Life's a Beach in exchange for an honest review. "Dude" was a great character. Charming, mysterious and sexy as all get out. Amelia is uptight, cynical and needs to relax. She needs to get away. A beautiful island. A sexy stranger. What a way to leave your troubles behind. Loveswept and NetGalley have introduced me to an author that writes stories that are tempting but worth every calorie.
