Rabbi Olitzky (executive director, Jewish Outreach Inst.; Jewish Holidays: A Brief Introduction for Christians) here provides a kind of follow-up to his Sacred Intentions and Restful Reflections. Like many of Olitzky's writings, half-directed at the non-Jewish reader and indeed keyed not to the Jewish but the Julio-Gregorian calendar, it is rich in epigraphs from Hebrew Scripture and Jewish writers but rather light on Hebrew and Jewish history. His book should be warmly received by most Jewish congregations and readers, as well as interested non-Jewish readers.
