Lift-the-Flap Counting Book

Lift-the-Flap Counting Book

by Felicity Brooks

With lots of flaps to lift, this charming book lets young children have fun matching numbers and pictures. It's the ideal way to provide practice in counting and number recognition, and there's plenty for pre-readers to find, name and talk about.

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Eleanor Heldrich
This book with its cheerful yellow and green cover is a festival of lift-the-flaps fun beginning on the first page where the presence of fingernail cutouts indicates there will be lots of flaps to lift. All of the remaining pages are double-page spreads. Running across the bottom of each spread there is a wave of color containing pictures of all the things to be found under the flaps on that page. On the first page there is only one object under each flap, but on the following spreads there will be 2, 3, 4 and even 5 objects under the ever-larger flaps. The next-to-last spread asks the reader to find the number of items under each flap, 3 ducks for instance, or 5 stars. Each page of the last spread has 24 small flaps. On the first side, the reader is asked to count the number of things pictured on top of each flap. Then learn if your answer was correct by lifting the flap. The last page asks if you can find the flap in each row that has a particular number of objects underneath. If the reader lifts the correct flap there will be a shining sun. All the others have a large X. This book offers a fun way for parents and children to work on learning the numbers from one to five together. Reviewer: Eleanor Heldrich
