Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Designed to stimulate a toddler's developing curiosity, the full page flaps are easy to lift and when opened offer a triptych. The busy overpass features cars and trucks, while the far left panel gives a close-up view of a few vehicles one would see on the road. In addition to the scene at an airport, kids see other vehicles that fly, such as the space shuttle and a helicopter. The scenes show travel on land, water, and air and certainly offer plenty to foster further discussion. The beautiful photographs are of excellent quality. This book will entice kids to open the pages more than once. Part of the "baby genius" series, which also provides pointers on the back cover to help caregivers maximize the experience using the book with toddlers. 2005, DK Publishing, Ages 18 mo. to 3.

    Things That Go=Great for boys

The Easter Bunny brought this book to our 21 month old son. He loves trucks, trains, and cars. He picks this book every nap and bedtime. Each page has a fold-out page. He tries to name each kind of vehicle in each topic. Pictures and words are descriptive. Great opportunities for vocabulary building, number counting, and color recognition.

    The title says it all

My son suddenly became obsessed with cars. All I'd hear from the backseat when driving was "car","car","car." So I decided to buy him a book that was full of cars. Well my local B&N didn't have a book that was age appropriate that was nothing but cars, but they had this book. The little guy LOVES it. Each page opens out into 3 panels and features a different type of vehicle. The only page my son doesn't really care for is the boat page. The book is about 6 pages long and he'll just look and look at each page and tell you over and over what is on each page. It's a good way to keep him entertained for like 30 minutes--he's that into each page.

If what you are looking for is nothing but a series of pictures of different vehicles, this is your book. It's great for the 18 month old set though my 6 month old is showing an interest in it too, but I think that might be more because the younger one mimics what the older one likes.

We've had this book for over 2 months now, and the newness still hasn't worn off.

    I Also Recommend:

Very Educational and Enjoyable to Read!

I love DK Publishing's books, regardless of whether they are for children or adults! The illustrations are always wonderful and visually stimulating. I bought this board book for my 2-year-old who is obsessed with cars and trucks and he enjoys this very much. It doesn't exactly read like a story, but it allows for opportunities to interact and to identify certain vehicle vocabulary. I also like how the "lift the flaps" are actually opening up a new page - that way there is no way the flaps will be inadvertantly ripped off by an overenthusiastic child.

    I Also Recommend:

    Very Useful

I teach 2/3 year olds and picked this up for one of my lesson plans. I actually found it to be very useful for several different plans. Children love to see real-life items and it's nice to have something the boys can relate to. (Quite a lot of books are "cutesy" or marketed towards girls...) It is kept as a "teacher book" because the flaps can be easily torn. When it's requested, children can sit at a table and look at it for as long as they want.(I usually combine the book with a Safari Tube with similar items as depicted in the book. The children love matching items to pictures.) For a gift, it's terrific.
