Read an Excerpt

Leah had been dreading a lonely Christmas in the hospital, being treated for cancer, when she met shy and handsome Ethan Longacre.  Even though Ethan, who is Amish, comes from a completely different world, Leah found her spirits lifting and her heart falling in love.  Now, the months have passed into summer and Ethan and Leah haven 't been able to forget each other.  When they see each other for the first time since that magical Christmas, will things between them be the same?

In the barn's dim interior, Leah saw Ethan pitching hay down from the loft.  She gazed up at him, her heart pounding crazily.  He looked down suddenly.  She couldn't move, could scarcely breathe.

In that instant, Leah realized that Ethan was the real reason she had come to Nappanee for the summer.  Ethan, the Amish boy who lived in a world more different than any she had ever known.  Ethan, the Amish boy she had fallen for months ago.

"Leah!" Ethan called.  "I'll be right down." He descended the ladder.

Nervous, Leah looked back toward Charity for moral support, but Charity had slipped away.

"Hi," Leah said when Ethan stood in front of her.

His brow knitted.  His startling blue eyes stared directly into hers.  "My eyes have been hungry for the sight of you."

I really didnt know what to think of this book before i started reading it. It had to be good since Lurlene wrote it, but it looked a little different. But when i read it, it wasnt any different. It grabbed you, it held you, and also had a hard time letting go of you at the end. It is such a great book and shows you many things, such as that you cant judge people. I loved it and everyone should read this. It was excellent and i would recommend it to everyone even though it is sad.

Would you ever want to be in a hospital because you have cancer? Well no one would, this happened to Leah though. Leah is a girl who was raised up English, and while she was in the hospital, she was in a room with a girl named Rebekah. Rebekah is a little girl who was raised up as an Amish girl. Rebekah has a brother named Ethan, and Leah and Ethan like each other a lot. When Leah was in the hospital she spent a lot of time with Ethan and Rebekah. Leah became very good friends with Ethan and Rebekah. Once Leah got out of the hospital, she had to go back to where she lives in Dallas. Leah didn¿t want to leave because she liked Rebekah and Ethan very much. She told Rebekah and Ethan that she would come back during the summer. She ended up going back that next summer to visit Rebekah and Ethan she also got a job there at a Bed in Breakfast/ Inn. Leah likes her job, and she likes the fact that she can go and visit Ethan all the time. Leah¿s boss always ask Leah to go and get produce, and since they are all Amish, they don¿t go to the stores, so then Leah gets the opportunity to go to Ethan¿s house to go and get produce for her job. Leah and Ethan end up going to the county fair and other places together. While Leah and Ethan were going out, Rebekah and Leah spent a little time together. Rebekah likes Leah a lot and is glad that Leah is with Ethan. When Leah has to go back to Indianapolis, to go for her check up, she ends up getting some bad news, and that her cancer might come back. When things turn bad, will Leah be able to move on? Some things that are very good about this book is that Leah gets to reunite with her friends that she hasn¿t seen for a whole year, also Leah and Ethan get together. Some bad things are that Leah has cancer, and she can¿t really get ride of it.
