    Warm, wry and elegant novella

    After initially seeing movie many years ago I wanted to read the novella. The tale of Margaret and her handicapped beautiful daughter in Italy is charming. Spencer does a fine job of crafting two interesting characters in Margaret and the Signor who play cat and mouse over their children's romantic interest in each other. Both Margaret's internal and external dialogues are clever and the ending is so satisfying I sighed with relief and a sense of "this is a perfect"
