Overview

The stunning conclusion to an epic trilogy, which Children’s Literature calls “a thought-provoking sci-fi adventure with universal appeal”

In this final and most ambitious book in a wonderfully inventive sci-fi trilogy, veteran interplanetary travelers Jamie and Ramsay must protect their alien friend Wishaway, now living with them on Earth, from the scrutiny of sinister forces on their own planet. In the meantime, Wishaway’s beloved home planet of Altair seems to be hurtling toward doom. Just when circumstances on both worlds are at their most dire, members of the ancient race who built the mysterious lighthouses return to offer Jamie a terrible choice: He can save Earth or Altair, but not both. The fate of two planets is in the hands of the teenage Lord Ui Neill. Which home will he save? His or Wishaway’s?

The worlds that Adrian McKinty’s characters inhabit are vividly real. This third book will be the sleeper hit of the fall season.

Editorial Reviews

VOYA - Kelly Czarnecki
When Ksar lands on Earth from planet Altair, he is surprised to learn that hardly anyone has heard of Jamie, the Lord Ui Neill. The CIA and others are looking for Jamie because they believe that he is going to bring about the end of the world, and they want to kill him quickly. Thaddeus, Jamie's older friend, has a prominent role in saving lives in this installment of The Lighthouse Trilogy, and alien Wishaway is back as she learns to navigate Earth and tries to blend in on a planet much different than her own. The book moves quickly, flipping back and forth among the various characters who are looking for Jamie, including Ksar himself. Psychics, assassins, and the rediscovery of the Salmon of Knowledge provide nonstop adventures. Thaddeus's knowledge as a beloved friend and adventurous spirit even though he is and adult in a teen-centered world is welcome. Best friend Ramsay's humor is still as sharp as ever - the recovery of the salmon of knowledge, which requires breaking and entering, entails his donning a one-piece black cat suit. Events on Altair come to a head one more time in battle with Ksar surprisingly on Jamie's side. Young readers might wish for a bit more romance between Wishaway and Jamie, but as one world ends and another begins, there is a sense of hope that their love will eventually blossom.
